Ah fuck it. I'm no longer proud.
At the beginning of November I had a series of life events, procedures, treatments and surgeries that left me very ill and very broke. I am doing significantly better now than I was, but I am still under observation, housebound and exhausted.
Anyone in Chicago who has any extra food lying around during the holiday season that you want to get rid of, especially vegan food, I'll take it off your hands. Cooking is near impossible and I rely on help to get groceries.
Also, I've found that a life-threatening illness really shows you who your real friends are. There are friends like Sauda, who drove an hour each way every day to see me, deliver necessities and bring me food ... and then there were "friends" who responded to news that I'd landed back in the ER overnight and needed help that day with "I'll have more time to see you when my job ends in three weeks." Dude, I nearly died. Sorry that didn't work with your schedule.
EDIT: a couple wonderrfully generous souls have offered to help financially. While I am deeply, sincerely grateful for such incredible kindness, I do have insurance and while this is going to be very hard for the next year, the medical bills will not bury me. Please consider donating to the charity of your choice instead, as there are truly needy people out there whose lives would be drastically improved by your hard-earned cash.

trills:
Sucks to be them, really. I hope for their sake they don't end up in the same situation, it's really disappointing to find out who your real friends aren't. We've experienced similar during Hugh's extended down time, listening to people complain about trivial shit whilst I was scared to death I could lose him, not cool On the flip side, Sauda and similar souls rock! I hope things straighten out for you soon.
