Thank you, everyone, for the advice with the job stuff.
I got my first job offer on Friday!
Interestingly, it is for a job that I applied for even though I didn't think I was entirely qualified. It is at the same university as the research job, which is cool, but I really want the research job!
I asked them to give me a week to make my desicion, and they agreed. Hopefully, this will give me enough time to hear from the other position. If not, hey, I can't complain. I just got offered a job making good money at a great school. Plus they thought enough to hire me even though I will require quite a bit of training. I consider that a compliment.
Oh, and I also finally got a letter from the sheriff's department, saying that I have been scheduled for an exam on the 26th. It took them over 6 weeks just to review my application! After I take the exam, it will still take them so much time to grade it, schedule and give three interviews, and do my background check. I wish I could do it, but I don't have the luxury of time to wait around for the county process.
So, it looks like my decision has been made. One way or another, I'll go work at the university very soon.
I think it's fair to say that I'm kicking the recession's ass.
