I have a bit of a dilemma in my head right now.
If offerred, should I take a job in academics with a potential for getting into the PhD program at a later date or should I hold out for the crime lab job with the potential of getting to work at crime scenes?
The academic job is available now, but the crime lab job could take up to a year.
I'm thinking too much. I need to start running again. I have gotten lazy and fat and am in no shape to run the LA marathon this month.
That shall be my incentive - if I meet my current goal on my thesis today, I will start running again.

turbulence:
can't you take the academic job now and always switch when the crime scene job is more "real"?

I'm with Turbulence, go for the PhD and then ditch it if a better offer comes along. In my experience about a quarter of people drop out of a PhD for one reason or another (mostly cos it is a painful, life sucking beast).
