Helloo People!
How have you all been? Well, I hope
So I started my new job about two weeks ago, and I have no time to do anything let alone write an 'interesting' blog. Here is now my attempt. Brace yourselves.
I do not like my new job. All I have done is evenings last week I did 8 days straight, I get no breaks...my shifts are 8 and half hours long..huff. Also, my boy is now on his internship so he works normal 9-5 and I go to work at 5 so I haven't seen him. So the job hunt is on again to try and find myself 'a normal job'. I am looking forward to getting paid though obvs.
I'm a big ball of lurgy at the moment as well..nioce, Sniffles, general gunk you know how it is. I have been entertaining myself though with my new hat. As some of you may or may not know, I am a little bit obsessed with animals, I don't know why, I was obviously starved of affection when I was younger (joking I actually wasn't) I just like furry things (my boyfriend is a good example of this)
I present my new hat
It's panda, in case you didn't get that, also check out this guy, he's waving at us!
I discovered through a thread on SG this website for San Diego Zoo, and it streams live footage of Panda enclosures there. I just love watching them, such beautiful creatures.
I went away last weekend after my hell of a week at my new job, so it was really lovely to get away. I went to Oxford. Here is a map I did for those who might not know where it is (I'm also quite bored and having an awesome time being stupid and playing on photoshop)
I went away with my Mum and Nan, I don't see them that often so we arrange weekends and do something all together. We were right in the country, all I could hear were the birds. The nearest town was about a half hours drive away. Made such a nice change from the busy South West London. It was also my Nan's birthday weekend.
I took a few pictures whilst I was there, I brought out my portrait lens, which is amazing, it goes all the way down the f1.4! Beautiful, because I love shooting with a wide aperture anyway, so this was very enjoyable.
Here's a few...
and some cows for good measure.
I also got a new book!! I am really interested in being a forensic photographer, I have had meetings with various police forces, exchanged emails, but no one will give me a placement. Some do offer placements, some don't, but because of the high demand, I keep getting turned down. This really upsets me because I am so passionate about doing this, I have the right degree, and they bang on about experience but how can I get it, catch 22 situation basically. So I got a new book on 'The Methodology of Forensic Photography' I have started reading it and it's so interesting, it goes from the basics explaining how depth of field plays a huge part in documentation (its kinda obvious but still a good refresher) to how to present evidence in court.
I got my copy of Source Magazine today. It is a photographic review and come out seasonally so I just got Autumn. A few of us from my university decided to enter ourselves, so we are up on their website. It is open each year to uni students studying photography, so you are representing your uni. Like I said your work goes on their website and you get a years free subscription to Source magazine. It's really good, it tells you all the latest news, exhibitions, book reviews and interviews with up and coming photographers etc.
It has a lovely piece talking about the Sally Mann 'Affirmations of Life'. I have been meaning to talk about this exhibition for so long and keep forgetting! I went with the infamous Secretary. This exhibition brings together her more famous works like 'Immediate Family' and 'The Family and the Land'. My favourite part of the whole exhibition was 'What Remains' It explores the uncertainties between landscape and memory, life and death. She presents to us bodies decomposing in the woods in Tennessee's Forensic Anthropology Center. These images are darky beautiful which create a peaceful end to what could be translated as a tragic end. I could go on about this forever, please excuse my persistent rambling.
On a lighter note, I found this picture today!
Yes, I really am on a roller coaster. Our faces are priceless.
I also drew this....
It's a male blackbird..in process.
My shoot with Holley is almost edited so keep your eye's peeled as it should hit MR at some point in the next few weeks.
Here is my ill face. I'm going back to bed now for a late afternoon nap.
