The Co-Ed Mud Story
Okay, so I've decided to try a little blogging finally by sharing a recent experience while I was home on vacation. While deployed to Iraq, everyone gets two weeks to go on vacation. I spent a wonderful week in Vacaville, CA, and then headed home for a week to Fort Meade, MD, in the middle between Baltimore and DC. While I was home, one of my best friends, a girl named Jess, booked a spa mud treatment/massage thing for me, her, and two other friends. One of the friends I know, Bridgette, and the other is a girl name Hannah I had never met before.
So we all show up at a place called The Pearl spa in Columbia thinking we will meet and then go our separate ways. The spa informed us the 'Blue Grotto Mud Treatment' was a co-ed all inclusive experience and was puzzled no one had explained that over the phone. Soooo, now this awkward as no one brought anything like swimwear and I don't even know the one girl. The spa offers to give us 'disposables' to wear. Well, what can you do? I'm on leave from Iraq and had already decided that I would just go with whatever happened since I'd never been to a spa before.
I go into the men's locker area and try on the disposable boxers. It's like wearing a very thin burlap sack and with the hole in the front and not buttons/ties/velcro, it seems like it's designed to showcase what you have instead of provide any privacy. So I try on the disposable briefs and that's even worse by itself. So I go to both on and get my robe on. Part one accomplished.
I join the women about fifteen minutes later and we are led to the Grotto room. First we get to sit in a waiting room on nice comfy furniture and relax a little while the mud was prepared. I've never done a spa thing before so I decided to just go with whatever happened. Thank god Hannah felt the same way. Now that we've started to loosen up, Hannah asks if I mind if she goes topless. No problem I tell her and everything is cool after that. Bridgette stayed the most modest, keeping her towel on the whole time. My friend Jess was the funniest one, she came out bottomless but with the disposable top on because she's sensitive about some reduction scars. She's still about a 32-33D and the disposable tops look like they are designed for women with A cups. After a word in her ear about how dark it was anyway, she lost the top and it almost shot off like a rubber band from the strain.
We get into the mud room and it consists of large bowls of different types of therapeutic mud and large paint brushes you are supposed to use to apply the mud all over yourself with. It's colored lights and a little dark. Dark enough to keep us all relaxed about the awkwardness still. After a few minutes, everyone finally got fully into it and we were putting mud all over each other with the brushes. If you've never done this, I HIGHLY recommend it.
Still here? After all the fun mud painting, we went into an even darker sauna room and sat around for 30-45 minutes baking and letting the mud pull impurities out of our skin. Once we cooked enough, there are monsoon shower heads in the ceiling and sea salts to help scrub most of the mud off. It was fun scrubbing each other's backs and getting mostly clean again.
The next room is a shower with jets in all the walls, shampoo, and body wash. We let Bridgette go first so she could have privacy and the rest of us finished last. From there it was massages and done. The massages were awesome and I think I disappeared in my brain for a while I was soooooo relaxed. I remember thinking how time seems to get all warped when you are that happy and melted.
Once the massages were done we all adjourned to separate locker rooms and I was presented with a warm brownie dessert with whipped cream and some orange juice. Odd combination but the brownie was good.
What could have been a complete disaster of a night turned into a fun little bonding experience like few people get to have. After the spa it was across the street for dinner and drinks and the perfect cap to completely perfect night.
Okay, that's it for this long story.
