Gah...I signed up to take the GMAT on May 30th...that's less than 2.5 weeks away! My future depends on the outcome of that exam! I hope I do well on it. And for those that don't know what the GMAT is...because Lord knows if I weren't in the business college at my school I wouldn't it's like a harder version of the SATs...sort of...but you have to take it to get into Graduate School. Which personally I think it's stupid. I mean clearly if you got your Bachelor's degree you can hack it in college. And they let you take first year grad classes before you're in grad school. What I this is that if it's been less than 5 years since you got your bachelor's AND you have a 3.0 gpa or higher, you don't have to take this exam. (It costs $250 btw to sit for 3.5 hours and take a multiple choice exam on a computer.) If it's been more than 5 years, and/or you have less than a 3.0 gpa, then you have to take it. Because they at least recognize that some people just weren't focused on school or you just don't do well taking exams, when they were in college and their GPA isn't an adequate tool to base your success in grad school in the future. So the GMAT is used to offset that. Blah that's my rant about that. But I'm taking it either way. I need at least 500 out of 800 to get into the Master's program at my little school. I'll keep you dolls posted!
On another, yet school related note...my friend, who's a 29 y/o single mom was telling her secrets to how she survives by being a teacher's assistant making like $600-700 a month (plus you get a stipend of like 85% of your tuition)..well she was telling me how she does it having a child and eating out and doing cheap yet fun things all the time. So tomorrow I will be going to make friends at the financial aid office at my school before class. I will be filling out some form that tells them that my situation is different than the last tax year and to please, please, please give me money for school that I don't have to pay back. At least as much as they can! And considering I funded my bachelor's degree on all loans, I can't really get less than $0 free money. Either way, they'll either give me grants or more loans. And I know I'll be strict and pay them off. So I just need to be cheap and stay low during the summer term and then the new school year holds new funding opportunites so I can continue to focus on school and just get a little job on campus to pay for cas, food and my cell phone!
Oh and she also told me that the school has an insurance option for graduate students so I'll just need to cover myself till I'm in grad school.
So as you can see, the GMAT is quit important for my future. It gets me into grad school so I can put more letters after my name and get bigger job offers...but more importantly it completely changes my funding options, insurance etc...but I won't psyche myself out and give myself test anxiety and do poorly. No I can do this! I just need to review the books for it till Friday morning on the 30th.
Yeah I can totally do it...
