It can be surprisingly difficult to get a cab in this city, during the day. At no time was this more apparent than today, when I really needed a cab to get around town. You see, my truck got towed by the city for expired registration. An officer pulled me over and had it taken away on the spot, which is always kind of a bummer.
So I went around today, getting a temporary operating permit, getting my truck back, getting it smogged to complete my registration, then heading over to the DMV to get my new stickers. Unfortunately, I went to the Hall of Justice first. They told me I needed an operating permit from the DMV to get it out of the impound lot. Well, it took so damned long to get a cab to come around, then another to get back from the DMV to the HoJ that I was twenty minutes late. The tow office or whatever it's called closes at 3PM. On Wednesday, of course, it reopens from 4-7, but I missed that by a day. I didn't feel like calling and waiting for another cab after that, so I just walked. I ended up walking for forty-five minutes before I finally made it home.
The kicker is that it's going to cost me so much to get my truck back that I'm borrowing money to cover rent. I've never had to do that before, and I'm really starting to hate having to have a car in this town.
Of course, I can't be angry at the city. If I'd just gotten my car smogged in time, I could have avoided this whole mess. Damned procrastination.

I, on the other hand, have no car. And I probably won't until I can afford my dream car. So I can neither sympathize with you nor offer sage advice.
Am I still allowed to point and laugh?
