my guitar wants to kill your momma.
well, since i went to coachella last weekend,
i should probably write a journal about it.
cuz well, it was worth it. i've just been to lazy to upload all the pictures and take the time to think.
so...night one.
we left LA around 1pm, only to arrive in the (thankfully now cooled down) desert at 5pm. fuck the 10 for being such a traffic ridden bitch. at least my girl got a brand new hybrid escape that doesn't use gas when it's at stand still. that is the coolest, most efficient car in the world. gimme 35k so i can buy one. oh shit tangent. okay so yeah, we get there, and go directly to the alcohol garden cuz we're lushes like that. i unfortunately missed eisley and snow patrol, who both ended just before we arrived. so the first band we caught was keane, which we heard through the protective gates of the alcohol area. they were alright, i guess. i'm not really that into them. rilo kiley was next, and they were great! jenny lewis is such a great performer, and has such a cute voice. their music makes me happy. i believe that "portions for foxes" was my favorite song they performed. unfortunately, i didn't get a picture of them. i don't know what i was thinking! after their set, there was an hour to kill until weezer came on, so we went straight back to the alcohol area. i ended up spending about $50 bucks soley on alcohol just the first day (and i only had $70 on me!) plus, my friend karis brought an adderall, which is ADHD medicine, but works for us kiddies as basically low grade speed. so we drank a little and split the pill in half and popped it, then headed over to find a good section to watch weezer from. this would be the third time seeing them for me, and the first for karis. i was excited to say the least, cuz weezer is one of my favorite bands. i've loved them since i was a wee 5th grader. it was so perfect too, cuz they opened with one of my all time favorite songs "say it ain't so", which i got a good video of. i love my sony cybershot. it's so easy to get in to any concert and gives me the opp to shoot pics and take video! and it's like the size of a credit card. kind of. anyway, weezer was satisfying, although rivers seemed like he was on herion or something, maybe he just sounded slower to me because i was gradually getting hyped up on my adderall. their set was really short which was disappointing, and they didn't play anything from pinkerton, which is one of my favorite albums by them. here are some pics...note these are off the jumbo screen since i couldn't get a sufficient shot from where i was standing.
rivers!
a good shot of the =w= from the stage and screen.
after weezer played, i was definitely feeling the adderall, and second guessing if it was even a good choice. that's the thing about uppers, you just want more and more after you take them. so i just sucked on a cigarette for the rest of the nite to push away all my come-down thoughts. someone remind me not to take anything speed like again. i thought adderall would be nice, but it just reminded me of being a druggie. eww, i was a druggie. so not me. anywho, we ran over to catch bits of chemical brothers and fantomas, who both fucking rocked it. one year i will spend the whole time in the electronica tent dancing my ass off. it's just too much fun in there. even though it smells like a muddy stable. then we ran back over to hear the last of coldplays set, which was good i guess. i really liked them when parachutes came out, and i don't know if it's their commerical appeal, or that their music is getting worse, or maybe my taste is changing, but i just don't have the same respect for them that i once did. they were still good live. chris martin has got so much energy and seems like such a happy guy. they did a cover of a johnny cash tune and played a buncha new songs. and when he sang "yellow", he switched the lyrics from "it was all yellow" to "it was all coachella", which was kinda clever. i know i didn't include bauhaus in my journey, which kinda sucks, but i just didn't know them well enough to catch their set. i heard the singer was suspended from a rope for the beginning of their set. crazy kids. after the show we had a great wait in the parking lot, then an hour drive back to our hotel in redlands. so, we arrived back at around 3:30am and CRASHED OUT. thank god that adderall didn't keep me up all nite, i would've been hating life on sunday.
nite two.
the second day was by far and beyond better better better than the first. not only because i saw NIN, but we arrived much earlier and the set schedule was placed so well that we didn't miss out on any of the bands we wanted to see. we woke up around 9:30am, got all ready, ate some jack in the crack for breakfast, and then headed back out to the desert. it was noticeably much hotter, so i wore the tiniest booty shorts i'll ever wear in my life. plus i wore a cute little tank top and walked around with an SG sticker on my boob as some sort of shameless promotion. we got through the gates at about 1pm, sweating our asses off.
our grand entrance.
this time around i thought out my alcohol situation and steathily got a squirt bottle filled with southern comfort through the security check. hahaha! i am the sneakiest of all sneakys!!!! so we bought a smoothie and immediately began to drink. we met some cute little boys in the shade tent who were waiting around for seven hours just to see NIN. we commented to them that there were tons of other bands to fill their time with, but they were content just sitting in the shade waiting for NIN. so i gave them some SG stickers and a smile, and went along. the first band we saw was autolux, who i had only heard of, not heard their music. i really, really enjoyed them. they have this hottie girl drummer who came out from behind her kit to sing a song and it was sexxxxy. i love bands that have one female member. girls are special. their music is kinda ambient indie, if that makes any sense. so after that we ran over to see a bit of gem, who i don't really like, but my friend karis does. she was okay. she seemed really appreciative to be involved in the whole coachella experience. cute cute. then we went and saw thrice, where i ran into my friend john, who i had been looking for all day on nite one. we smoked a spliff and watched thrice's set. i really only wanted to hear "staring at the sun", and they played it, but it was just a solo by the singer, which was lame. after that we found my friend nathan and i made him buy me some drinks since i had no money, and wanted to save the southern comfort for NIN. we tossed back some margaritas and watched the futureheads from the shade. they're pretty cool. they reminded me a little bit of devo. after that, we were fortunate enough to see the dresden dolls do their virgin megastore cd signing. i would've stood in line to get their signatures, but it was just too long and i had bands to see. so i just took pictures from the sidelines.
they are too cute...
then we ran over to tegan and sara, who i love. they're so adorable in concert cuz they talk way too much and constantly make fun of one another. silly lesbian twins. hehe. i actually just saw them a month ago at the glass house, and i think they did pretty much the same set. they had a big crowd going, and thanked everyone for watching their set because they knew there were four other great bands playing simutaneously. and then they mentioned that they liked everyone's outfits. i personally couldn't fathom how all the goth kids were wearing head to toe black outfits. that's dedicated. sorry guys, i wasn't about to pull out my knee high boots and black dress in the scorching sun! i'm a pussy. anyway, here's tegan and sara.
i had to resize it to fit the page, so the quality is a bit compromised, but there they are!
after tegan and sara, we ran over to the electronica tent to see the end of miss kittin's set. that was fun. it was kind of weird because it was the middle of the day, all hot and sticky, and we were dancing around in this stinky, hot tent with all these concert lights and video playing. the atmosphere got a bit lost somewhere in there. but she still did a good set. i mostly observed all the hot boys dancing, cuz, who doesn't love when boys gots moves?!!! then we went back to the stage tegan and sara played to see arcade fire. they were okay. i expected more. their violinists were the best part, cuz they looked like they were dueling. but they were just playing around. i got a crappy picture of them. so crappy that i will not post it! after that, we had an hour to kill until the dresden dolls performance, so we kinda just took that time to walk around and look at all the different booths and random art. they had this trash can installation, just a buncha trash cans painted by different artists and musicians. i believe hunter s. thompson did one, along with mark hoppus of blink 182. that was an interesting addition. i'm sure we went and drank some more too. but we decided to arrive early for dresden dolls so we could get right in front. and we did! thankfully it wasn't packed, or else i would've been covered in my sweat, plus everyone elses sweat and dirt and yummy ness. DRESDEN DOLLS KICKED ALL YOUR ASSES. they are two of the greatest performers i've ever seen. brian, their drummer, is so animated, almost like a mime (or a doll, har har.) he would play off the words that amanda sang, like if she mentioned death, he would pull his tie around his neck like a noose, or if she mentioned sadness, he would turn his face down into this huge frown. it was just great fun to watch. and amanda is intense...so much power on that keyboard. they did a cover of sabbath's "war pigs" and dedicated it to the president. i never realized how low she sang until i heard it live. she sings LLLLLLLOWWW. she's fucking hot. meow. they also did this dutch drinking song, where brian played guitar and amanda danced around with a beer can in her hand, spraying suds all over the stage and herself. it was mighty impressive. they have shot up to current top ten favorite bands on my list. amazing astounding mind blowing blah blah performance.
during their beer song.
brian on drums.
amanda on keyboard. sorry my pic is so blurry, i occasionally don't know how to work the camera properly, like when i am fits of excitement!
after dresden dolls, it was a straight pilgrimage to our mecca, getting a good spot for NIN. i downed three shots of southern comfort and smoked a spliff, then was greeted by the haunting sounds of trent's piano. GOD. i cannot even describe to you how insanely happy i was to be finally seeing this music live. and they did such a great set list. i don't remember everything of course, but i do remember that they did new ones like "you know what you are", "with teeth", and "the hand that feeds." they also did personal favorites of mine "march of the pigs", "somewhat damaged" and "piggy". "hey pig, yeah you, hey pig, piggy pig pig pig, all of my fears came true." !!!!!!!!!! i was jumping and dancing around like a dorky freak. the southern comfort hit me at exactly the right time and spot. aaron north and jeordie white are my new NIN heroes, they did such a great job adapting into new members. rightfully so, mr. white has had an extensive working relationship with trent, so i'm sure he knew what he was doing. but aaron north, WOW. so impressive. he was all over the place, he took the music in like it was his own. and he sang great too. nothing will ever compare to trent, who is GOD, who i couldn't keep my eyes off of. fuck, he just possesses this talent and voice that is pure SEX. GOD SEX. hehehe. i truly feel like i don't need to go to any concert ever again because they fully satisfied every want i could ever think of for seeing a live band. they also did a buncha old stuff like "suck", "terrible lie", and "head like a hole." they were just perfect perfect perfect and i'm so happy i got to see them. especially at a festival show like coachella. the setting just seemed so fitting for such heavy, crunching, hard industrial shit like NIN. after their set, it felt as if my weekend had just started since i was so pumped up. i wasn't really in the coachella spirit until i saw them. i got some video of "hurt" and really good pics of trent of the jumbo screen.
during the opening song.
my personal favorite. i believe it represents all that is NIN.
fuck yeah bitches!
awesome motion shot.
so yeah, after that we caught the last of the faint's set, but who really cares cuz I SAW NIN!!!!!!!! hehehehehe.
then we headed home, and i think we got back at around 2am. my boy left me a bouqet of flowers on my porch, so that was a nice ending to a great weekend. what a sweetie face.
so, who is going with me next year?
(please excuse typos and grammar problems and the sort. i think this journal took me three hours to write. )
love you SGland.
