OK....so Thanksgiving is over...everyone's gone home....the house is back to normal...time to get back to real life again. Holidays during the week always throw my days off...I walk around going, "What day is this again?"
So, it's Monday...laundry day....errands and odds and ends day. I've already got the laundry started, the errands and odds and ends are coming up this afternoon.
The lightening, thunder and rain came last night. Not sure how much rain, as I've already brought my rain gauge inside to keep it from freezing and busting. But, it came down pretty good for awhile last night. It was strange to see and hear the thunder and lighting after Thanksgiving....welcomed, but strange.
I slept pretty well last night, but had mucho strangeo dreams. I wish just once, I'd have a dream that made some kind of sense....I always wake up after them feeling mixed up and I don't particularly like it.
I guess it's actually time to start thinking about Christmas now. I'm soooooooooooooooooo glad that I'm not in retail anymore. I have a theory that working in retail can actually make you hate Christmas....or at the very least not look forward to it. At the garden center that I used to work at, we sold live and artificial Christmas trees. I'd unload, sort measure and stand 500 live trees and inside the store we'd assemble 25 - 30 artificial trees. I learned to hate Christmas lights with a passion....especially the ones that came already installed on the trees. Many of them didn't work right out of the box and the company I worked for wouldn't let us return them, we had to repair them ourselves. I had to spray some of the live trees with the white "flocking" to make them look like snow trees. What a freaking mess that stuff was. We had a little room, seperated off with plastic from the floor to ceiling. You'd put the tree on a rotating stand, wet it down with a garden hose and then start spraying the flocking on the tree as it went round and round. The flocking stuff went everywhere and it made the floor slick...like walking on 3 inches of snot. Then you had to carry them out to dry overnight under a heater. I've had my fill of Christmas trees for a while. I do have a nice artificial tree here at home, that I'll put lights on and decorate.....I'm not quite that jaded yet....I'm just not anxious to handle anyone else's tree or lights for a very long time. I should stop talking about this now or the rant will go on...I've got more that I could go off on....
I'm really not a Scrooge.....I just got a bad taste in my mouth from the business and commercial side of it. I do love Christmas day with everyone here to open presents and eat dinner. I love watching the little kids enjoy it.
So, dig out your Christmas music and start getting in the mood.....that's what I'm going to do and maybe....just maybe....some of my bad memories of Christmas retail hell, will start to fade away.
