Hello everyone. For memorial weekend I was able to escape the Twin Cities and drive up to Grand Marais Minnesota, for some much needed R&R.
I took a half day that Friday and drove up with my friend Chris and his dog Meiko. Fishing was quite slow, but after many years of trying I finally caught the mighty Steelhead that has been alluding me for many years!
22", not too bad for a first one. I also was fortunate enough to catch a 20" Coho salmon as well.
I also came across this very bizarre winter kill of a deer.
Fishing slowed down on Saturday, so Chris and I decided to tromp around the woods and see if we could find any Moose shed antlers, or see a moose. Since 2010, the Moose population has gone down nearly 54 percent, so we were not expecting to find any living moose, or their antlers but....
Success! A very nice mature bull. And with all of our noise form moving around in the woods, I am surprised that this guy decided to stick around for a photo op! But it gets better...
What finds. It took about 6 hours and 4 miles of walking moose trails but we found one match set and one single. Not bad! We also found this super weird dead coyote.
The last thing we did was try and take advantage of a meteor shower that was going to peek over the weekend. We have not tried to take pictures of star trails before, so I apologize for the photo quality, but it was still great.
All in all, great weekend. Take care everyone!
