Ha Ha New Update
So I havent updated for a bit and now that there are some changes in my life and new events that have happened I figured that I should put some of it down.
So for starters I just moved (and no that isnt really an excuse for not updating, Im just lazy when it comes to that) and Ive been with out the wonderful internet for a few weeks but now Im back and ready for action so to speak. The new place is a bit smaller then the last but with more useable space, which is more important then, having lots of open space. Its more accommodating to having company over then the last, manly because we got a new couch and love seat for people to sit on. That and our last couch was in such bad shape it really only sat two people not leaving much room for company.
Second thing that I would like to talk about was the NIN and Janes Addiction concert that was this last Tuesday at Fiddlers Green (and for you who dont know that venue its in Denver, or really Greenwood Village) which has become a pretty decent venue ever since Coors bought it and revamped it for better sound. Before Coors bought it, it was really hard to hear the bands play if you were on the lawn section of seating but the Orchestras seating was much better but more expensive and for shows like NIN and JA they would sell out fairly quickly. So Coors bought it made it better and then sold it back to Greenwood Village, it was really a win, win situation for everyone.
But enough about the venue lets talk about the show. First Ill discuss Janes Addiction who oddly enough were the Headliners that night, and really for me not being a super huge fan of JA, I was pleasantly surprised. They had all the makings of a good Headliner band, great back drop, great stage presence, great visuals, and good banter between them and the crowd. They played pretty much everything that the crowd wanted to hear and then some, and they played between an hour and forty minutes to two hours. But really as far as sound goes it was mixed so that Dave Navarro and the drums were what was focused on. Perry Farrell was still good but you could tell he was having a little trouble dancing around and singing at the same time in the high altitude here in Colorado. And I really cant blame him, he was doing the best he could and it was still a good show so no real complaints here.
And now for Nine Inch Nails who was the real reason that I went to that show. And Im sad to report that I was a bit disappointed with their performance this time around. Let me tell you why while their set list was great and they played songs that I havent heard much in concert like Dead Souls and Burn, they also played a lot from Broken, Pretty Hate Machine, and The Downward Spiral with a few songs from With Teeth, the Slip, and The Fragile. So the sound was great with the emphasis on Trent and Ilan Rubin (drums). But the thing that I was disappointed in was the visual experience that weve come to love when going to a stadium concert of NIN and not a small venue. This show had the feeling of a small venue but with it being a large venue it didnt really fit. With small venues you get to be intimate with the band and they get to be intimate with you, there is a feeling that goes along with it where your covered in sweat from moving and the heat of a couple hundred people smashed together moving or moshing and just having a fun time. This is what I felt at my first NIN show in 91 during the Sin Tour at the Gothic and again during the first leg of the With Teeth tour at the Fillmore. They were great shows, some of the best Ive ever been to in my life and Im very thankful for being there. Thats not to say that I didnt like the large venues or stadium show of theirs because I did, its just a different emotional response that you get from those shows. On the second leg of the With Teeth tour at the Pepsi Center with Queens of the Stone Age I was just about in tears with how hard that everything hit me. The music mixed with the visuals was enough to break me down, and I was so thankful that it became my favorite large venue show ever. So for this to be a large venue show with the feeling of a small venue there really wasnt the right feeling there, and they did have some visual stimulant but it had the feeling like it was just thrown together and there was no care or time taken to make it right for the show. Where their other large venue shows like Red Rocks in 2007 and in 2008 were so beautiful that after the 2008 show Trent posted on his website that it was the best show hes ever done, you really felt like they took the time to make you not only feel the music but see it as well.
So to rap things up I just want to emphasis that Janes Addiction did a surprising job and Nine Inch Nails did a mediocre job which was sad in it self to see.
Ill try to update more if I can get off my lazy ass and do so in the future but until then
SPOON.
