"All my life, I've been told, love will keep us together, love is all you need, and all you need is love. Well, I remember a time when my momma sat me down, and she looked me in the eye, a little pea bone, then a smile, and her smile turned into a laugh, and her laugh turned into a cackle,
and you know what she said? You know what she said! Love is unkind! Love is unkind! Love is unkind!"
Danko Jones.

"You do it to yourself, and thats why it really hurts"
Radiohead.
"I should give you a slap for given' me a dose of the clap, but instead, I'm just gonna hit you with this baseball bat"
Circle Jerks. (that one was just for shits and giggles)
The perpetual masochism and contradictions that appear to be cornerstones of human nature never cease to delight.
The description of an ether binge by Hunter S. Thompson, holds one significant similarity with respect to what I have observed while watching people in my life, as well as myself. Introspection sure can be a bitch.
"With ether, total loss of basic motor skills, hands flap crazily garbled laughter, hissing...always smiling, the mind recoils in horror unable to communicate with the spinal column. Which is interesting as the mind can function more or less normally you can actually watch yourself behaving in this terrible way but you can't control it."
(paraphrasing)
Human nature; similarly, if you make a point of it you can actually step back and watch. You will no doubt, see all of us behave in some terribly stupid ways; often recurrently. At this point it's usually too late to bother trying to control it. (Try to make a point of catching it (the stupidity) before it really gets going; next time... & good luck with that...) Even if you've been through it a hundred times, when you're right in the middle the larger picture appears to get lost on the majority of us. A predilection for selfish, self indulgent, short sightedness, seems to be human natures default settings. Along with a somewhat autonomic, & insanely insatiable need to procure validation from others in a multitude of forms, with a variety of tactics. Which we use as the means to convince ourselves of our own self worth. Sadly, with only the exception of the five years and younger crowd, this behaviour appears to be a global affliction, transcending cultural, gender, and pretty much any social barrier I can think of. I find it hilarious, which I fear may be to avoid a total breakdown. Imagine my horror as I realize I'm the idiot responsible," Holy shit! I'm steering?!? Into it?! AGAIN!" and repeat. Imagine my horror as.... What a bunch of maroons!
Like getting kicked in the gut when you're down, and or, the genuine compulsion to laugh , I often feel those two feelings simultaneously, "uh-fugg, ha heh, ooof ,ha ha, ugh!" Everything that is truly amazing about human potential & progress, the fantastic accomplishments & magnificent creations. The ability to master that we humans demonstrate. In addition to invoking a round of well deserved applause, I can't help realizing it also points an awfully unflatteringly bright spotlight on us all; the overexposed escapees with nowhere to run. Emphasizing & highlighting the irony; making all the really idiotic bassackward stuff we do & just can't seem to stop doing over and over. Look even more ridiculously asinine.

If there is one thing that keeps proving to be true with regard to humanity it's that the only thing common about common sense is the lack of its employment.
