My ear infection got so bad my eardrum perforated. Again. I am now permanently hearing impaired in my left ear. Oh well. It's not like I don't read lips and (half-assed) practice sign language with my belly dancing instructor and my little Simba. Life goes on.
In fact, An Tir's first SCA event is this weekend. I'm stoked. I have new gear, not really staying period to my usual Spanish 16th century this time. Doing some Turkish, Celtic, and Welsh from various periods. I don't belong to a house anymore and haven't really since I was a teenager. I have fun trying new things, personas, languages...learning as much as I can about civilizations and empires. AND I'm forcing myself to learn to sew under a master seamstress, rather than simply relying on my abilities to play instruments. One cannot only aspire to be a minstrel, now can one? I choose not to settle on any one thing. Besides, I don't own an open hole pristine flute anymore and my bass guitar would hardly fly among such company.
On a side note, I'd love to learn to play Harp next. And just because it's me, I'd play the hell out of Iron Man on that thing. Not at an event, but maybe around my mother's house. She took my rendition of "I'm on a boat" very well when we went Marlin fishing in Mexico. Even when I taught it to our guides, in Spanish AND English.*
*I may or may not be high on percocet right now. My ear hurts. Fuuuuu....
