Spent the day at the hospital with my mom while she got her scans done. She goes through this every once in a while to see how her cancer is doing. I know it won't shrink but I'm hoping its stable and not growing. Been trying real hard to convince her that she needs to smoke Weed. She's been complaining about not having an appetite so I keep pushing her to toke up. No luck so far, but I will keep trying.
While waiting I heard this interview with a scientist who was studying 'Blue Zones'. Apparently they are areas where people live to an average age over 100. He was trying to see what the similarities were in all these different blue zones around the world. He wrote a book about it but here are a few things he divulged. They eat at least a cup of beans a day. I love beans so I will try this and thankfully I live alone so no one to torture there. They drink 2-3 alcoholic drinks a day. Got that one covered. Been doing that for years. On rare occasions I will drink more than 3. They eat red meat only few times a week but do eat lots of seafood. I will have to try and cut down on all that delicious red meat. They are very active. They don't sit around for too long. I don't know how to drive so I walk everywhere or ride my bike. They take 20 minute naps in the middle of the day. Wish I could do that. That's all I can remember, just thought I should share.
Also read another article about the myth of 8 glasses a day water consumption. The author made some good points. I have never bought into that whole "You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day" shit. I drink when I'm thirsty. I trusty my body to tell me this shit. I never carry a water bottle with me. The only time I have ever done that is hiking in Arizona, where you have to be stupid to hike in a desert without one. But I laugh when I see people in Chicago carrying around water bottles like they are going to die from dehydration or something. Your in a big city, you are very close to easy access to water everywhere. You won't die. You might get shot but you won't die from dehydration. In fact if you drink too much water you will drown.
