"You're so smart."
My 10yr old niece has said this to me several times yesterday. "I'm not any smarter than your dad."
"You're smarter than my dad."
"No. I am not. We know different things. It's not the same thing." She narrowed her eyes at me as if to say, that she does not believe me. Knowing a lot of certain things doesn't make you any smarter than anyone else, it only means you are very knowledgeable about certain things. But I am also very ignorant about many other things. Knowing that you are ignorant is the only way to learn about things. I will, one day, get this into her head. At her age, okay at any age, saying someone is stupid or what they are saying is stupid is just plain lazy. What's really going on is that we think it's illogical. Instead of hearing the person out or trying to argue a point we find makes no sense. It's just much easier to say someone is stupid. I don't 100% believe anything. I think if anyone's argument is good enough and makes better sense than what I believe then I will adopt it. But I won't make it easy, you would still have some convincing to do. I accept what most people tell me at face value until I get some new information that tell me otherwise. I remember sombody said to me once, that person could be lying, true but it's still a good story. Everything everyone tells you is a story. And I like to learn people's stories.
Almost forgot. Made 2 Easter baskets for my nieces. This being their favorite uncle thing, it takes some work.
