I believe, as an artist, the more varried and different styles and types of art you try, the better the style and type of art you are into, will be. I love to paint and draw, but i always step away from it to try new things. In the last year i have been trying my hand at Interior Architectual Design. I bought a 1928 vintage 1BDRM condo, 1 block from the lake, in Chicago several years back. Even at the time i thought of it as my canvas.
I have this decorative brick fireplace in my living room. Pretty ugly. I wanted to have built in cabinets on either side and buid up my own wood mantel from scratch.
Once i had built the cabinets to look built in, i then built up the basic shape of my firplace mantel.
I really wanted to do an art deco style of mantle but i also wanted to make it modern by incorporating a computer chip solder design.
I wanted something that reflects me and looks like art.
