So, I've been on a musical binge this past week or so. There has to be a group for this kind of insanity. "Why buy when there's a plethora of musical outlets on the internet?", you say. Ahh, but there's a simple answer to that question. One day, I hope to have an admired collection. I hope to bestow these musical goodies onto perked ears. No, not "my children" persay, because as most of you who know me, KNOW I won't be having any of those. I just want to have some kind of something that I can carry with me through the years (BESIDES my tats!).
Anyway, One thing I've noticed to ring true with a large portion of my purchases are these long, drawn out, and often times boring intro's. I really just want to 'rock out' and you are going to make me wait for it? Do that on song 11 once you've already captured me. I find that I am skipping right to song two and thinking, "now, why isn't THIS song one?". Ok, so here's the list with a star rating (1-- poo poo to 5--stella!) and quick opinion:
Purchased this past saturday-
1. 50 Cent--The Masacre- ***.5
Yeah, I liked it. So shoot me. It has this sort of early Jay-Z feel to it, that is once you get past some of the mainstream crap like "Candy shop".
2. The new Queens of the Stone Age- ***
It would have helped if I hadn't f'ed it up and it's now scratched like a mofo. BUT! Before that happened, I enjoyed songs #5 and on. This was one of those CD's that I was refering to with an obnoxious begining.
Purchased this past tuesday-
3. Beck--Guero- ****
YES! Uh huh, you better believe I liked this one, and no, not just because I'm a true blue beck fan. Not only has Beck furthered himself lyrically on this one, he seems to channel the same energy that was put into Odelay. The man's got soul!
Bought it last night-
4. Moby--Hotel-**
Ok, good, but too lovey dovey (as a good friend of mine would describe anything with an OUNCE of implied admiration). I was a little dissapointed because the man seems to have found love, maybe a muse, and has choosen to write about her, A LOT. The beats are ambient-esque, even though the CD comes as a set, with an accompanying ambient album (?). I did however enjoy the first through fourth song on this one, so thanks Moby for not making me wait!
5. Kings Of Leon, and the new Ivy albums are being listened to now, so, I'll have full on reviews/ratings by saturday this week.
Oh, and I also went against personal standard and bought the newest edition of Rolling Stone. Only because they did an entire spread of none other than BOB MARLEY! Oh, I thought I was having an orgasm, and had to do everything in my power to keep from yelping and huging the check out kid (though he was probably on enough acid that he would have been like, whatever....)
