I was in SF yesterday and I found this really cute metal pencil case that was made in Korea.

I had to leave a post because, forgive me for being sheltered, but I haven't met anyone before who's read Memoirs of a Beatnik.

Let's just say that book caused a great deal of chagrin to my girlfriend at the time after I read the chapter where Diprima gives the "shocker" to the guy that lives in the back of the bookstore.

I thought it would be a great idea, but when I gave her her little surprise she was pretty bummed with me.

LOL! That happened to a friend of mine and her landlord. The way I figure, though, it's more embarassing for the person who walks in than the person who owns it.

My idea for your bookcase is to rough it up a little bit with sandpaper. Go to Home Depot's paint section and usually they have an area of discount paint, stuff that people brought back or was otherwise unused. They can't sell it retail since a lot of the paint is custom mixed. Pick out something you like and buy it. smile

Then you can either use a thinner coat and go back and sand it for a rustic look, or use a sponge to make neat texture, or even stencil the case. Ta-da!
