I did get the tattoo that evening. It was something I've wanted for some time. At the tattoo studio someone asked Brandi how long we've been together. Brandi's reply was something like, "We've been after each other since I was 12." This last February was 10 years together for us, since my senior year, her junior.
The significance of the tattoo is great for me. One day, a few years ago, I was looking at letters Brandi sent to me while I was in basic training and notes she wrote me in high school. I noticed that her signature was cute and simple, a heart drawn askew and her first name. Unchanged after all our years of correspondence, adorable, just like her.
It is on my forearm, inside, just below the elbow.
