Well, I finally watched Donnie Darko... It's okay. A very well crafted distraction that didn't annoy me as much as I thought it would. But not compelling enough for me to understand why the lines are being quoted all over the place.
It seems like everyone is trying to find--or be--the next cult film sensation. And this feels a bit forced in that way. A fascinating piece of craftsmanship, but ultimately not too meaningful or really meaty. But I won't say I hate it. But I hate the buzz surrounding it. That's overhyped.
Anyone comparing Donnie Darko to David Lynch is a fool. David Lynch's intricacies can dance circles around Darko. And Lynch is so confident in what he does he has a great sense of humor to his work. Darko felt weighed down by it's own self-importance.
But I did see the Rockets Redglare documentary. It was great in it's own way. A DV film that looked like a DV film, but the subject itself--Rockets Redglare--was compelling enough to make it worth watching. Only wish the same message/film was done by someone with more skills. Because as a film itself, it's not to pretty a package. He's one of the most under-appreciated NYC indie film fixtures and it kind of pisses me off that this film is probably going to be the last testament to his life/contributions.
Yeah, it's the end of summer and I'm back into films again!

Hey, I really like your site. I've been on a similar mission here in L.A., and have found many strange and wonderful things to photograph. Now I never go anywhere without my camera...
i have a feeling that there might be a language barrier between cock and pickachu. then cock would eat pika, then pika would do something magical and japanese and explode out of cock to freedom.
yeah, i should go back to work.
