Pictures from the philippines trip!!
1. This is a lake with a small active volcano inside it. And inside that volcano is another lake!
2.Jeepnees are cars left over from the war that were decommisioned and given to civilians for repair and use. Everyone uses them as taxis. You can't walk half a block without having at least 2 of these puppies on the street next to you.
3.This is an area that used to be a very unique hotel. There used to be treehouses that people would sleep in. They took the tree houses out but the rest of the place is there which makes for a wonderful visit. The entire place was green. It was amazing.
4.Back in WW2 the japannese invaded the philippines. We went and visited one of the Forts of the philippine army. The buildings surrounding it were never repaired from the war. The Fort was a stronghold against the japaneese but unfortunatly it was taken over. This is an area that the philippinos used as a ammunition and food storage. The japaneese soon made it a dungeon. 300+ people died in there. Some from starvation, some from drowning when the rain raised the river levels that was just on the otherside of the wall. This dungeon area is actually below the water level at all times. It helped to keep the food cool during the hot summer months.
5.This is inside the dungeon. There was a big group of school kids and other tourists that were not allowed inside the locked gate. We however paid our way in.
6.Now for move upbeat...The Ati-Atihan festival in Kalibu was great. The entire city shuts down and dances in the streets. People dress up in costumes. It has something to do with the baby jesus and vampires..that's all I know. Here are some of the costumes...
7.Another more elaborate costume..
8.The ati atihan vampires...
9.they come into town at night and steal babies...
I'm not joking...
10.I didn't even know this could be possible...but it's a restaurant that only serves dishes made with spam!
11.And finally... There were the cutest little pups at the house we were staying at...we wanted to take them home!
