We are back!
When we arrived in Manila there weren't any armed guards there to escort us. Someone somewhere exaggerated to me just a little bit. We did have an escort though who took us through customs and immigration without having to stop. We stayed our first week in Manila with relatives who took us around the city sight seeing and shopping. There really wasn't anything that I wanted to buy there. Although, Nonsense made out like a bandit on like 20 shirts that he bought. The exchange rate was great!
We went to Aklan on the second week and that is where we had the most fun. The City of Kalibu and Aklan celebrate a festival called Ati atihan. The entire city shuts down and everyone gets together and dances in the street. There are elaborate costumes and bands! The house that was were staying at in Aklan is beautiful. It is surrounded by farm land. The family had a pig(which was slaughtered the last day we were there...i had to watch...it was pretty freaking horrible. ) and chickens, roosters, fighting cocks, and a goat(Which was also slaughtered for us on the second day of arrival.)
We went to Boracay for 2 days and 1 night. The sand is so pure and white there that it's illegal to take any of it off the island. The water is perfect, warm and clear. We were snorkling even in the rain because the weather was just so perfect. I was sad that we only stayed on night. We bought some gifts for our family members there and then headed back to Aklan for our last day in the philippines.
We drove from Aklan to Kalibu, took a 45 min plane ride from Kalibu to Manila, had a wait time of 6 hours which we spent in the mall near the airport, and then a straight 11 hour flight back to LA. There wasn't a layover on the way back and it took less time which was great because I can't sleep on airplanes and so I am pretty tired.
Iv'e got tons of pictures that I will upload into the computer some time soon. And even though I had a wonderful time...I am so happy to be home!
