I've never lived anywhere where the whole area just... catches on FIRE. I'm sure all you California people think it's nothing, but I've only lived here a year.
Thursday, after attending class in Woodland Hills, I walked outside and the smell practically hit me in the face. It smelled like God (well, if I believed in him) was having a campfire. And my car had a thin coat of ash on it. And for half of the drive home it looked to be very slightly snow flurrying. More ash. Then when I got closer to home, I saw a very small column of smoke rising from the hills right behind my apartment. It got bigger and bigger. I witnessed the now fairly large Burbank fire starting.
On the drive to work earlier tonight, I could look just to my right and see the entire hill ablaze. And on my way home just now, it was even bigger. I can walk outside my apartment and just watch the hills burn. To me, this is CRAZY.
And this probably makes me a weirdo, but I have a FASCINATION with it all. When it's on the news, I cannot tear my eyes away, even while in a crowded bar with people trying to talk to me. And on the way home from work, I did a lot of swerving, because I couldn't stop staring at the hills right behind my house just BURNING. And now I really wish I had someone to go outside with and watch it with me. I just want to watch it. But alas, everyone is either asleep or at work.
