I found out this morning (well, really, yesterday morning since it's Tuesday) that my dad got into a really bad motorcycle accident.
He was on his motorcycle, and the driver of a semi truck fucking ran a red light. He was in ICU for a week, almost didn't make it, and just came out of it. His back is broken in two places, and one of his lumber vertebrae is completely shattered, gone. He is currently paralyzed from the waist down. There's always the chance that he'll recover, but it's likely he will never walk again. On top of that, he has six broken ribs and one shattered ankle. I just can't believe it... he's always been this tall, lanky man with big strides and very active. I can't imagine him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He's only 43. But at least he's alive,he's lucky for that. But there's a very long, hard road ahead of him. He's being flown to Atlanta in three weeks (he's currently in Savannah, GA).
He and I have had a tenuous at best relationship since my parents split 10 years ago. There have been many times when I thought he didn't even remember that he has a daughter. I haven't seen him in over five years. And I haven't talked to him in years, though I have gotten a few cards and letters here and there over the years. I talked to him on the phone today, and he was so out of it, so in and out, and he sounded like an old, broken man. He was always the wise cracking smart ass, ya know? I hung up so he could go back to sleep, and sobbed.
He was so happy to hear from me, and begged me to call back tomorrow, so that he "has something to look forward to". It's kind of sad, but tragedy sometimes has the ability to mend broken families. I want to go visit him as soon as I can.
I still kind of find it hard to believe. I don't believe in God and prayers and all that, but if you have any good thoughts, please send them his way.
Man. I want to fucking choke that god damn truck driver.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened, both as your friend and as a motorcyclist.
I hope he's able to make a more complete recovery.

I want to do set shoots & get wardrobe together soon. I think Dani is flaking so we may have to find someone else to do it with you. Call me when you can.
