This week's @bloghomework about scents could get a little winded... I'm really into aroma therapy, and I diffuse and wear essential oils every day! I think I could sum up my entire existence with scents, honestly. It's a well known, scientifically supported fact that the olfactory glands are directly linked to the areas of our brains associated with memory and emotion. When I diffuse an oil, or apply it to my body, I don't want it to just "smell good". I want that scent to transport me to a different time and place, I want it ease my pain, to motivate me, to ground me. I think the best scents I've ever worked with are:
1. Lavender. If the full moon had a smell, I think this would be it, and it's super calming!
2. Balsam fir. Anyone who isn't familiar with this gorgeous, natural scent needs to be.
3. Frankincense. An ancient oil that people have been using for spiritual and healing purposes for ages.
Just those three can turn my day around. I can put any of these in my diffuser, and whatever shitty thing happened that day, or whatever inconsequential thing I was worrying about, just melts away, I can pretend for a moment that time has stopped just long enough for me to take a breather, reset my brain, and become grounded once again <3
