Well, so much for things mellowing out.. I spent 7pm until 8am this morning in the ER with my grandfather.. My mom had a court date today in order to obtain full custody of this girl that has been living with her so she needed her rest. The girls' parents are both druggies, alcoholics, unemployed, no home, and treat their kids like shit so it was important that today went smoothly. We love the girl like our own blood
Anyway, my g-pa was admitted to the ER around 3pm via ambulance due to trouble breathing and his extremely swollen legs, suggesting kidney failure. I headed out there right after work and didn't get to the hospital until about 7pm because I had to take care of my sisters since my mom was at the hospital. My mom headed home around 9:30, but still didn't crash until about 3 So I stayed with my g-pa all night.. It's nearly impossible to get anyone to pay attention to him if "I" ask, let alone if he calls for help.. It was a very depressing experience, but I needed to be there.. It sucks seeing someone you love in so much pain while the people that are suppose to help this acknowledge and then ignore your requests for help and there is nothing you can do.. By the end of the night I was adjusting the ER bed myself (it's not electronic, the back of the bed is raised by the use of a bar) just to try to help my grandfather get comfortable.. Every time I'd ask them for help, they'd say "Be right there" and never show up again.. I'd ask someone else and THEN MAYBE I'd get help.. It was horrible.. They are completely under-staffed and I fear it is like that everywhere
So, he's now stable.. I am now home... Haven't slept more then 20 minutes within the past 24 hours because of my grandfather's dementia he'd pull out his IV and other plugs because he'd be confused and freaking out.. I constantly had to stop him from unplugging everything and remind him that he was in a hospital.. So, yeah, no sleep for me.. He even tries to undo things WHILE he is sleeping.. How talented is that? lol.
I hope everyone else had a better night then me!
