I am gonna make this pretty quick cuz I have a sick and pregnant dog to watch over..
Today was a FUCKED up day.. I took Sophie, my 1yo Maltese (5lbs), that I have had for only a few weeks, into the vets because I thought she had an ear infection since I first brought her home. Turns out she has ear mites and needed her ear hair to be cleared (a.k.a. ripped out). Then the vet talked me into letting them give her give Sophie the Parvo shot... I was sooo reluctant.. I really didn't want to because I know small breeds, esp. maltese are extra sensitive to EVERYTHING.. ... .... and of course she had an allergic reaction. In fact, she almost died. Within 2 minutes of coming home she went into an ichy frenzy and then all of the sudden she jumped on the couch and stopped moving... She stopped breathing.. I shook her and she started breathing again, very shallowly.. I picked her up and noticed that she had urinated on the couch as well.. That, to me, showed that she almost did die.. As many know, when you die, all your muscle relax and you will urinate and "poo" instantly..
We rushed her to the vet, it was like an ER.. They gave her tons of shots.. put in an IV.. The vet said that it was the second worst case she had ever seen in reaction to the parvo shot, the first being the dog actually died :\ I'll admit, I cried a bit.. Not to where it would interfere with the doc's work.. But you could look into Sophie's face and see that she was holding on by a thread.. It was scary, I felt horrible, and I was willing to have them do everything no matter what the cost to save her.. Her gums were literally white and her breathing shallow... All this happened within 15 minutes of getting the shot and within 2 minutes of the side effects first kicking in.. It was unbelievable.. SO anyone who has a small dog or esp. a Maltese, be VERY cautious with the Parvo shot and DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT let them give the dog any shots with Lepto in it! It is a known killer of toy breeds.. Ironically, enough the vet did not give her the shot with Lepto and she still almost died :\
Right now Sophy is stable and still have the IV thing in her leg just incase we have to rush her into the vet hospital again, the doc is on call. I am going to sleep on the couch with her tonight.. I have to monitor her breathing and color.. If you pray, worship, or wish luck - please help me in wishing for my babe to get better and make it through this.. For her sake and the puppies inside her

You must be devastated! So much for relying on your vet's advice. Maybe it's tme to shop around for another vet. Our little one's are tougher than we think. You and Sophy are in my prayers......
