On a rather negative note, I found out today that an old co-worker passed away this last Friday... She was in her late twenties, a 1 y.o. son and a 8 y.o. daughter, and one night out with the girls ended her short life. She and a group of girls were out drinking, riding on a golf cart, she was standing up and fell off the cart. She must have landed just right because she was killed instantly. One of the girls that is a nurse for the military did CPR on her for 45 minutes determined to save her, but obviously her efforts were useless.
A little history -- I worked with her for three years and got close to her briefly. She was a beautiful woman with a great personality IF you had her alone. She always had a chameleon quality about her which was more of a downer then anything. She would always "change" around one older female friend of hers and get caught up in the gossip. She also had a weakness for alcohol which always caused concern within me. Hell, she would even drink and drive - very scary.
None the less, I am mourning her loss, but feel the pain more for the people she left behind. Her son probably won't remember her at all and hopefully won't be destroyed by this event, but her daughter is more then old enough to understand what has happened. The girl's father has never been in her life so now she is left with her half-brother and step-father. Don't get me wrong, her step-father is awesome - far more responsible then my co-worker ever was BUT you can never find a substitute to a mother's love. I am not religious, but I pray for strength for her family during this hard time. I will not be driving to Southern California tomorrow for the funeral, but I am going to go down there this weekend to pay my respects to such a young life lost.
Remember folks, life is short and fragile.. Do your best to be healthy, happy, and survive as long as you can..
