A poem inspired by this anorexic bitch that I saw in the student center today. ughh.
On Eating Disorders
With collar bones like twin blades
as sharp and delicate as spun sugar
ready to crumble in the grasping breeze.
Ankles like thin razors,
china bones so frail-
crisp-
Like leaves settling in the fall.
But if she falls, would she shatter?
Would she splinter into a thousand broken pieces?
Glass on glass on gauntly stretched skin
over a wire frame of bone and blood.
Some would argue that she has a pianists fingers,
graceful and pointed.
But really, they look like starving talons
Struggling for air and food.
She is a bird fighting the snow,
Wings beating helplessly against starvation and the cold.
Would her wrists snap if I held them tightly?
Crackle like kindling should I kiss her pulse,
her fingers crumbling like ashes scattered over a grave?
With eyes like brittle knives,
their luster and life receding with her perfect waistline,
fading as fast as porcelain beauty
settles into lipstick and rouge and that smooth mask
that so perfectly hides the broken doll
underneath its wings.
