Ross goes to work
Today was my first day at my new job in Blacks then.
Incase your unaware of what my job is or what Blacks do then i'll inform you
Blacks is an outdoor clothing store located in keswick.
My job there is to wander round the shop floor helping people with things like walking sticks, fleeces, boots, jackets pretty much anything outdoory.
So anyway today was my first day, so in preperation what did i do? Did i....
a) Pack a lunch
b) Sort out my clothes for the morning
c) Pack a bag with a book and some stuff to read
d) Stay up to 4.30am watching That 70s Show
I'll let you guess.
They ask for me to arrive at 9am. Fair enough, the store opens at 9.30. So after standing around and leaning on several walls for 28minutes i get led upstairs to fill in some bank details and given a blacks shirt.
Its not the busiest of days, its raining out but we have our busy spots. I aquaint myself with the till and spend most of the day talking to the supervisor Ron, we laugh about the dicks who used to work here. (i was a Blacks employee for 6months 3 years ago).
A fairly uneventful day all in all. The first of many for me, dealing with the grumpy old couple customers to the extremely cheery Czech sightseer.
If your feeling tired a cheery customer can turn the day around so fingers crossed i'll be fortunate enough to have some of them a bit more often.
We have a thing called IPC there (items per customer sold) i personally dont care, i remember when i used to work there and members of staff would use such tactics as:-
- if they had a customer with only one item would hand them off to you so you could put them through the til for them.
- if you had a customer with several items they would put it through the till for you.
I didnt care about trying to get customers to buy more items to improve my IPC but it did annoy me when people tried to by sly about making sure theirs looked good.
We shall see if the same thing happens this time.
There'll be alot of new staff coming in over the summer and although i myself am new i'll feel like an old hand compaired to some of these, it'll be interesting to see how bad some of them are at their jobs. My sympathies go out to them.
Oh yeah.. just thought i'd grumble about something i just noticed. I notice this all the time... and appoligies if your one of these people.
Exibit a:The raised camera shot to expose cleavage.
Sadly this example is somewhat wasted based on the fact i myself have no cleavage. But its a prime example of MySpace photo sets and alot of profiles on here. How some people can have 15 pictures from the same angle i'm not entirely sure. Vanity i suppose, luckily for myself i was given a mild bruising with the ugly stick so such issues dont effect me.
Tomorrow i have a day off! wahey, so lazing around the house all day for me. Then its wednesday/thursday/friday/saturday in work. Saturday i find out my timetable for next week. Should be fun!
Ok i think thats all for now.
Just as a side note, i generally seem to automatically update once i have so many comments, usually its once i hit double figures or 18 or so (if im to be so lucky). Obviously i have the updates where 3 people reply over the course of a week these i deem as failures Mind you not everyone works in the same mind frame as me. If i read a journal, most of the time i comment.
Anyway i think thats enough.
Be good to yourselves, and each other xx
