Now for any of those who missed Day One i recommend clicking back in my journal to catch up on the fantastic excitement that was the first day.
For all the rest of you (all 3 or so..) lets continue the adventure that was the SGParis trip.
Oh and to be kind to users of slower internet this time i'll be putting alot of the pictures in spoiler tags so your not punished by hideous page loading times Ever considerate you see!
Oh and if your curious about the times i'm including with the pictures, its just the latest time any of them are taken to give you a little perspective.
Friday 8.13am
For once i'll actually use the words i wrote to describe this picture from my photo journal
"Bon Matin, its Day 2, and its extREME!"
I kind of like my photo journal narration but its a little too brief and leaves out alot of detail (plus i havent included alot of photo's in this internet revision) so we'll go with my new random and forgetful summary! huzzah.
So yes indeed it was day 2 of our SGParis trip extraveganza, original plans said we should have been in paris by now... but due to some complications we were merely in Calais at this point. But not to fret, we woke up and were ready to face another day. Extreme Style!
8.46am
So whats an extreme breakfast contain i hear you ask in your thousands (in desperate screams of anticipation). Well i'll tell you. Frosties, Coco Pops, Eggs, Bread, Ham, and cracker stuff.... oh and orange juice.
Sadly we wouldn't get to experience any after parties in the hotel lobby shown above because as soon as we finished our breakfast we..........
9.30am
Headed upstairs again to pack up all our things and say goodbye to Hotel Belazur.
10.20am
Heading on foot towards the train station we see a wonderfully modded clio, which goes to show you cant escape those crazy car modders no matter where you go. The car had a lovely badge on the window stating 'Tuning is not a crime'... anyway enough about cars, we kept walking towards where we thought the train station was according to signs and once again got slighly lost. We soon enough find our destination though and whilst enjoying the Ghetto train posting of wooden sheets for each time we hop on our Double Decker Train. Nice.
11.30am
Before getting on the train i note in my journal about it being like the "Space year 2059" but upon getting on the train i am "realising the future is a bit gash".
In my excitement i decide to hug Lee, and by his expression you can tell he truly did enjoy the experience. Quickly it became too much for him though and once again he falls asleep. "The master of sleep travel. Another day, another train, more sleeping".
Dan has brought the wonderful Comic 'Scott Pilgrim' with him so i indulge myself. A fantastic read i definately recommend it to you all if you havent read it yet.
12.01am
"Double Decker Space Uber Train Goodbye", wow my journal entries make alot of sense... so we arrive at the Lille Flandres station with an hour to go before our next train... but wait! Looking at the clock and a board we realise we can catch the earlier train which leaves in 3 minutes. Hopping on board we are extremely pleased with ourselves, we are quite the Extreme Ghetto Travellers.
13.05 = 1.05pm
So finally we arrive in Gay Paris.
Now we just have to figure out where to go, obviously we never bothered getting any maps before our trip. And we dont have anywhere to stay tonight in Paris... it just wouldnt be extreme if we did, so we figure.. head into town, find the Hostel we saw on the internet, Cant be that hard can it? should be sorted in no time whatsoever!
And so we leave the station and head into town, we've got a very vague idea where we're going... we should be fine.
13.43...... 1.43pm
"Our friend Pete, he guards our dreams and burns people in the square with lazer eyes come midnight".. my imagination does get the better of me sometimes. The story with this was though the second time we saw our friend Pete was around 11pm and there were lots of tramps staying in the square.. i just put two and two together. I really should have included some pictures of the old school mozaics that are dotted around the city, maybe in a later date.
15.40.... 3.40pm
So we finally get to the Louvre on foot, its taken a little longer than we first anticipated, we think the metro board maps scale is a little bit confusing... well it is if you dont check the scale. We decide to take a little break here for a while, i take quite a few photo's and here's two of them (decided not to include the others because we visit the Louvre quite alot as we pass it all the time).
"We rock the Louvre whilst trying to find our hostel. My feet hurt and the security guards are pimping it up on bikes". We assumed they were some form of guards.. basically they were just people flying around the area on bikes for no apparent reason.
16.46....4.46pm thinking about it i'm not sure if my times are an hour out.... at some point in the trip i changed the clock on my digital camera but i'm not sure when.... oh well.
So we decided to head up some back streets near the Louvre to find our hostel. It isnt going well as most hotels look to charge about 3 billion euros a night and our hostel is nowhere to be found. Thankfully we chance upon a lovely little backpackers hotel very close by, they dont have any rooms for 3 people but they have a double bed and are willing to stick another bed in there for us. We are happy with this, fuck looking for the hostel.. its probably full anyway and we've managed to waste another day wandering around doing very little.
Talk about an Extreme Day not living upto its name.
We foolishly walk into a cafe/resteraunt designed for americans.. 60 Euros for the meals.. More than we can afford really. For burgers and chips and a glass of coke. Wohoo!
"Chocolat? Si vu plait"... it looks nice.. who knows if my french is right... i'm crap at it.
Time for a nap.....
22.00..10pm
We're ready to go out... i decide to leave my digital camera at the room, i'll use it alot more tomorrow at the SG party. We aim to get very drunk.. afterall.. its meant to be an 'Extreme' day. If you wonder why i'm calling things extreme or ghetto or any of that crap i cant really answer, i just started saying it.. and writing it in my journal.
"After walking through about 8 sex districts and visiting about 6 bars covering about 3 square miles we finally return" We basically walked right down the red light district in our aim to get to the bar section. Little to no eye contact was made with the prostitutes and a smile was raised when we finally made our way out to find the single gentlemen heading to where we had just passed. A knowing look was exchanged between us.
Far too much walking was done, we had little to no luck of finding a Bar District... in Nottingham its basically bars all in one little area, not so in Paris.. well as far as we knew. So after getting back about 3.50 we get back to the hotel. We have our own key so let ourselves in and walk upstairs... there's a lady making noises which we cant tell if their sleeping or sex. We laugh for about 20 minutes at this and all eventually fall asleep.
Ghetto travel requires bed sharing.... any excuse.
Be Sure to check out DAY THREE... including more wandering around Paris... and the actual SG Paris meet!
