I have just been informed that a month is too long to go without a post so here goes.
Basically I am finding myself very easily bored lately. I am in a bit of a slump with work. Some of my samples are not working out as anticipated and it is adding extra lab hours to my project. Not that it matters since I just started my 2yr program. I just find myself leaving the lab whenever anything is incubating etc and I have a few spare minutes to go stare out the large windows that line the hall (there are no windows in the lab).
I usually day dream about the beach or Spain. I have a weird urge to go to Spain lately. It is really silly as I haven't been anywere outside of North America before and I have a ton of places that I want to go where I know people I could visit. Spain is one of the few places on my list where I don't have anyone to go visit (aka free sleeping space). I think I am going to try to save money off my paycheques to go on a trip in a year. I always use being broke as my reason for not traveling but maybe I just have to save. I am super awful at saving money though. Just yesterday I bought new sundresses and turqoise sheets, which by the way I am obsessed with. How cool are turqoise sheets??
This weekend has been pretty boring. I had lunch with a friend, went to a sidewalk sale and may go to the beach today. However it is only 22C out today which may not be warm enough for swimming. I really wanted to go to the beach on friday as it was 34C, but alas I was working.
Last weekend was much more entertaining. On friday night we had a going away party for a visiting German PhD student. He had a big bbq at his house and paid for steaks and beer for all of us with the rest of his grant from the German gov't. We then went out to a bar which played really cheesy dance music. I pulled out some of my signature moves like the 'midget driving a semi-truck", 'the ski race", "feeding the chickens", and "cleaning the stall". We closed the bar down and proceeded outside to find that a thunderstorm had started. This was actually a pleasant surprise as the german student really wanted to see a thunder storm before he left. We ran all the way back to his flat in the pouring rain barefoot. It took about 40min and was SOOOO much fun. We were swearing in German, French, Shauna (sp??) and of course English the whole way as we also had a visiting french student and a friend from Zimbabwe in the midst.
^ This is a picture of a very drunk and wet Rosita. I apparently ahve something very interesting to say. It is mega cropped as I didn't know if my work colleagues would appreciate me putting their pictures on this site. Some of them are cool enough to handle it but others are questionable.
I am going to miss the German. He was sooo interesting to talk to. Especially since I had just been bitching about how boring Saskatoon was. He has been everywhere and he is incredibly smart. He is working on swine gastrointestinal molecular microbiology stuff like I was last year, but obviously a lot more complicated as he is a PhD student. He was also quite good looking and funny .... swoon. Oh well it just means I have another place to crash in another foreign country.
The saturday after was also quite fun. I spent most of the day with two of my favorite ladies and got to walk a huge great dane named Burkley. Sunday was Canada day so we set up a slip n slide, kiddie pool, badminton set, and yuk n flux station in our backyard. If you haven't heard of yukn flux (as I hadn't until last weekend), it is a concotion of fruit, ice, flavoured vodka, and a bit of sugar left ina jar to ferment before being imbibed. The fruit is actually quite delicious and I think i ended up pretty tipsy from eating so much of it. I actually had to get dropped off at a party for a friend/colleague of mine who just passed his P.hD defense. It was very classy of me to show up drunk on yuk n flux to a $900G condo to hang out wiht my proffesors and PhD students. The guy who owns the condo is a very nice guy and travels alot so he likes to make the most of things when he is home. He handed me a bowl (I think it was too large to be considered a glass) of his home concoted sangria as I walked through the door. Sangria is really just yuk n flux for the upper crust. I think I had an extended conversation with my supervisor on what would possess me to pierce my tongue. I had to inform him that when you are 17yrs old, getting 2 for 1 tongue piercings in the local drug dealers kitchen just sounds like a good idea.
I was soo tired after the weekend, however I couldn't help going out to a bachelorette party on wednesday night. We all got drunk on cheap champagne, sang journey at a karaoke bar and played a game called "never ever have I ever" in which I learned some valueable information about myself. I have never had sex on a beach or in a foreign country. Spain watch out. Maybe I can visit the gernam... he does live on the baltic sea. The night ended with me and my roomie sharing a meatball sub on the side of the road at 2:30am in our party dresses and bare feet. We feel it is our duty to class up s'toon haha.
Anyways that was last weekend/week which was a blast and leaves this weekend with something to desire. It is still early sunday however so I still have time to spice things up.
P.S. I may have found an AWESOME 1bdr apt in my price range that has utilities included, a pool and a suana!!! and I apologize for not including any velocaraptors, dinoflaggellates etc in this post.

Spain is solidly in my travel top 5 list... the trip is contingent on being in a position to be able to do it up proper, not to mention actually getting a reservation, at El Bulli.
BTW, what did you think of the Russell essay?
stay
did i ever tell you the creepy stuff that happened in our place in edmonton while everyone was gone for christmas break?
