This weekend me and my team "We Are Devo" ran a 24hr relay for Camp Easter Seal to raise money to support summer camps for physically challenged kids. It was a decent time. We dressed up like the 80's band Devo with black turtle necks, crazy red hats, and whips.
While being mildly entertaining, it was bitter sweet. My team consisted of my good friend, her boyfriend and about 20 of his close friends. They are all good people and fun to be with, but they are not MY people. I miss my people. I love this town, but sometimes it is just a bit to conservative here. I have a few very close friends, however I am used to having a large group of people to engage in witty banter with. Very few people here read or share my sarcastic jaded sense of humour. I find conversations often circle around hockey, slow-pitch or brands of beer. Something I can deal with, but not topics I at all enjoy or have anything at all to input. Not that I need to engage in highly intellectual dialogue. One of tte last enjoyable conversations I had was about the pluralization of preying mantises/mantids?manti?? and mongooses/mongeeses/mongi?? Obviously not a mensa club conversation starter. It wasn't about hockey, beer or slowpitch though so it suited me just fine. I don't mean to sound bitter and emo, but I miss MY people.
