Well I was suppose to be off last night but I ended up going in. Yes I can be a workaholic but that was not the case last night. I was asked to go in & fill a shift & in return I would get Saturday off. So it all worked out in my favor, sort of. I got my ass kicked last night. Sat for the 1st 3 hours & then it was non stop after that.
We have a contract with this hospital & when they have a transfer heading to them for the Peds ICU, we do it. Along with the PICU team which consists of a nurse & dr. So we do them once in a while on night shifts. I ended up doing 3 of those last night. The 1st baby was a 1 year old with febrile seizures. That can happen if there's a sudden spike in temperature. Most of the time it's harmless & goes away when the fever drops. The second was an asthmatic baby & he was doing fine. But he did have his blood sugar real high so the dr's wanted to know why that was happening. The 3rd one was a 13 year old who tried to overdose herself on some TB medicine. Medicine belonged to mom.
I hate to go into a lecture but I promise to make it short. If you plan on trying to kill yourself. Dont do it with pills, cause 7 out of 10 times it wont work. You'll only end up seriously damaging your liver. To the piont that you'll end up on a dialysis machine for the rest of your life. I'm not trying to be cold hearted here by any means. But most people dont realize the serious consequences of trying to kill themselves with pills. And going on for the rest of your life on a dialysis machine is not fun. I've had some of these patients & there's a lot of life changes you have to make.
Ok the other call we had was a young girl who is pregnant. 25 weeks to be exact & she had some bleeding at work. But somehow her cervix started dialating & she was about 6cm along. The doctor was telling her that she might end up having the baby. She was on magnesium which tries to stop any further dialation. Also helps stop any contractions going on. That was kind of rough to listen to, for her. Myself too cause I felt bad for her. That must be something hard to take when you're excited about having a baby. Hopefully she didnt have her baby. If she did there's a good chance that the baby wouldnt die.
That was kind of depressing. Sorry didnt mean to bring anybody down. On a good note I'm off tonight. Oh & I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning. Kind of nervous about that. I have a cavity that is forming & I need that taken care of. Hopefully I wont drool all over myself.

No just kidding, I couldn't take advantage of other people in the hopes of making a living.
Sounds like a rough night. I tend to agree with you bout the use of tablets to suicide. I have heard of people using massive amounts of paracetamol (sp) and shit like that and all they do is ruin their livers if they cant get their stomach pumped in time.
Not to mention there are easier ways anyway.
The dentist, eek. I have been very lucky and have never had a filling or anything like that. I have had three of my wisdom teeth pulled. All on different occasions so it wasent to bad, I did actually end up drooling bloody saliva all over my pillow the night of each pull, eew!
