The Tragically Hip are coming to town again on October 10th. They will be playing at The Warfield in San Francisco. Being one of my favourite bands, I always look forward to seeing them. I have never been to the Warfield as they have typically played the Fillmore. I hear it is another great venue so I am looking forward to that.
A couple weekends ago, my wife and I went to the Fillmore to see Brandi Carlisle play with A Fine Frenzy. We mostly went to see A Fine Frenzy who was the opening act. Brandi Carlisle was ok I guess. A Fine Frenzy was great though. I hope they come back to the area as a headliner as I would like to see more of them. I love going to the Fillmore. The sound is incredible and there is just so much history in that building.
This weekend we are going to go to the Giants game on Sunday and then the local cigar shop is having the poker Tournament of Champions. There is about 850 bucks cash in the prize pool along with other other prizes like cigars etc. It should be fun. Hopefully I get better cards this round than I did last round.
Next weekend I am going to Reno with a couple friends to play in the Fall Pot of Gold Poker Tournament at the Grand Sierra Resort.
We had gone up in the spring and that was my first experience playing live tournament poker. I busted out in 30th out of 154 in my first tourney, 12 spots away from the money. I made it to heads up in my second tourney and chopped and I went out on the bubble in the third. I was pleased with how I played and I learnt a lot. Since then I have played in tourneys here in the Bay Area at both Bay 101 and The Palace and have continued to have success cashing and making a couple final tables down at Bay 101. I have learnt a lot more since I played there last and I hope to have even greater success this time around. We will see what the poker gods think though.
It's harvest time up in wine country. My wife and I spent last Saturday at Rubicon Estate up in Napa for their Harvest Dinner. It was nice to be outside under the stars, drinking wine, dancing and smoking a cigar. They put on a great party and it is something we will look forward to again next year. There are lots of other winery events going on over the next month. We will see which ones me make.
Here's to the weekend.... Cheers!
