I finished reading "Keep the Apidistra Flying" by Orwell last night. It was slow going - almost irritatingly so, but over all it was damn good. It's about money, basically, and how badly we all want it. The main character sees money as having complete control over people, and so to escape it he quits his job and takes one that pays only enough to survive. He's not above the control though, he's utterly obsessed with money, feels he's worthless without it. He tries to sink further and further into poverty looking for a place where money doesn't matter anymore.. which, obvious to the reader, isn't working at all, just fucking up his life. The end is so satirical and tragic that you can't help but laugh..
It's not exactly 1984.. but still really good, so go read it. =)
