I was really sad for about an hour and it just seemed to expire a moment ago...numb now.
So instead I'm going to post my Australia trip blog.
Prewritten in Australia....
Well, I had all of these plans to write all this stuff Instead Im just going to get the trip blog out of the way and start writing the other blogs during lunchtimes. Im determined to keep trying...first by writing summaries and then filling in the blanks. I really need a muse...a personal one and not a borrowed one. (I'm really lucky that several muse-types have loaned themselves to me even though they are already owned but still I long for my own. Ok, enough whining out of me. )
Australia wound up being un-extraordinary other than the weather causing my sinuses to constantly act up at night. Because of the time change/jetlag and the climate at night, Im working about 9 hour days (not too bad for me) but am going to sleep for 14+ hours a night, giving me 0 to 1 hours of free time at night. Its like Im living in a world where theres only 19 hour days and my bodys metabolism has slowed down at the same rate (from 16 waking hours normally to about 9 hours). Im taking a 5 Hour Energy, brought from the US because they dont have that stuff here in Oz yet, just to keep going each day.
The good news is for the hours I am awake, I got a lot of good work done.
Where Im living is just a bit outside of Sydney, the biggest city in Australia. Theres a college campus nearby. There are lots of young people, about half Caucasian and half Asian. Unlike LA and even unlike most of the US, most of the white girls look a bit ordinary along with a lot of genetic quirks you would expect to see in British girls. (Im not one of those people can recognize anyone of my own race but thinks people of other races all look alike. Im not sure what makes me differentmaybe living in LAs diversity has made me much more racially sensitive? Also, British girls are hot! Nothing like listening to a girl talk dirty in the Queens English, hehe.) But a lot of the Asian girls were really hot. Actually, I think maybe its the fact that the white girls are just regular people here and the Asian ones all come from money, are studying abroad in exotic Australia, and thus have a lot more funds to be fashionably conscious. Still, seriously, I see way more hotties in the US.
Oh, also, the food here is either really bad or the flavor in food in the US is jacked up. I think its bothI dont see people lugging huge cups of soda in this country. All drinks served at meal time come in little, regular-sized cups. At the same time, I didnt eat a single meal where the seasoning made for a deliciously savory flavor. I can tell this because my mom drinks no soda and is a great cook who uses little salt or sugar. Also food prices are ridiculous herelike $60 a head at a burger place Speaking of which, they call Burger King here Hungry Jacks and they often refer to McDonalds as Mackers.
Here are a few pics
As always you can get the whole folder here with full-sized shots.
These are of the hotel. Its a fancy-looking place. It should be, at $250+ a night! That price is inflated a bit due to the US$ to AU$ exchange rate. But not by much
View outside my window...nice view:
Walking outside to the lobby area:
Funny about this girl who got caught in my shot, this is taken at like 1PM. I met this girl like 4 hours earlier (dressed exactly the same and barefoot) and she had a really gorgeous pair of eyes. I was so impressed, I actually (super-embarrassingly) got up and looked for her after I was done with breakfast. She had a huge plate of fruit so I'm guessing she's a near vegetarian, which would explain her physical hotness, especially the gleaming blue eyes. And then...she appeared in my life again inexplicably hours later in this pic. I think I embarrassed the fuck out of myself to her...as she walked up, she probably thought I was taking a pic of her. Oh well, when you gotta shoot, you gotta shoot!
Gorgeous restaurant, no?
They had this fountain/coi pond. Kinda neat. Not as neat as the turtles I saw a couple of weeks ago at our local Arboretum in Arcadia.
Just outside...gorgeous day.
Outside, walking to the local mall:
Normal everyday scene...except everyone is driving on the wrong side!
Heres one thing that was interesting, especially to a zoological-type of geeknerd like me What we would call exotic birds the Aussies call birds. And damn noisy birds too! Cockatoos, parakeets, lorakeets, budgies, parrots and these weird things that look like a cross between kiwis and cranes They range from birds you would only see in a large cage at a pet store with a triple to quadruple dollar price tag to wait, isnt that species extinct? in terms of exoticness. The first day I got to the hotel, two large white birds, possibly the kind here in these pics.
I believe this is a mini-flock of Ibis birds? They were just casually hanging on a dirt mound outside a dorm. I couldn't get too close as they would keep moving away.
On the way, here's a typical bus station. It's styled after the unfolding petals like the iconic Sydney Opera House, which I got to see but it was dark so no pic.
In the theater in the mall...
I went to the local mall here, Macquarie mall I believe. I wanted to find a CD store (failed) and I needed to find a bottle of water at one of the two super markets inside to replace the one I drank in the mini-bar (success). And then I wanted to catch Fast Five, the new Fast And The Furious reboot. I found that the theater in the mall has this Gold Class ticket, about forty bucks, where you get to be in this private theaterheres the picsyou get a totally reclining chair and access to a private bar with a full menu of decently priced food. I thought it was a really nice experience and the movie itself rocked for the most part. I love the franchise and this movie was a special one, a bit like Clooney/Pitt Oceans 11. Speaking of Brad Pitt and street racing, a certain girl was on my mind the whole time*sigh*. A certain girl who I cared very much for but now I dont know how to talk to.
As you can see, they have the same movies as in the US but also some others I didn't know...
This was a shock, a movie about Guan Yu from Romance Of Three Kingdoms starring Donnie Yen. I gotta check that out.
I bought this thing called Gold Class and this is the crazy, luxurious theater...ticket was like almost 50 bucks US! They serve you wine, blended drinks, seafood, wings, a full bar and restaurant it seems. They bring it to you. As you can see I'm fully reclined. NICE!
Anyways, I fly back tomorrow, first thing in the morning so Im signing off now. Im carrying a fully-charged laptop. Maybe I get something written then.
