My Busy Weekend (Sorry part 2)
Hey y'all...I'm a failure. I wasn't able to pack up stuff yesterday so I wasn't able to get it shipped today...actually I was able to pack everything up but not box it, which is the same diff...and I was out all day and evening today playing Magic. I've been in three different drafts and I've only lost one match in the last ten and that one loss was a very bad beat. M11 and I just seem to get along well. So I guess I'm not fail in that.
So Friday night I go to one of the local game stores to draft and I forget that it's FNM (Friday Night Magic) and everyone was playing Standard that night. So I sat around but I made new friends sorta with a guy who was just there one day and wanted to play. We wound up just hanging out and opening packs of M11. (I'm an addict, I admit it, but it's still a Straight-Edge approved addiction. ) So instead of playing draft and just opening packs like normal, I spread out each pack and taught him how to draft because he'd never drafted before. As a drafter, I'm probably at the pro level when it comes to Core Set. (Speaking of Core Set, Amelia I have a M11 Fat Pack for ya and a foil angel deck comin' your way! ) It was pretty cool and he was way grateful. He was on leave from the Naval Academy because he tweaked his knee.
Saturday, because I got no drafting in, I went to another local game store and drafted twice for six man M11. For official games I went 12-0. For friendly games, as I usually build decently fast beatdown decks and each of my matches went only two games instead of the possible three, I also went another like 11-1. Needless to say, I know how to draft, hehe. That was a fun day, just relaxing, sleeping in and then drafting all day and night. I also spent a few hours playing guitar with some friends in a band although it wasn't a jam and I was also asked to speak about my knowledge of American and British pop music history. It was pretty bad ass as not only did I have a willing audience (of just two) but one of the guys actually also knew his stuff too so it was really fun to talk to and chat as well.
Now Sunday I had planned as a home upkeep/packing day. I did four loads of laundry so that was good that it was taken care of although I have one more to go, and then I had a business meeting (my new online trading card business, yay!) and we arranged a bunch of inventory and he took off with a ton of stuff to sell. I'm excited. The store will sell three different types of cards...Magic, Hockey and one other type of card...I know, ecclectic. But it be wat I doo. Then after that I got dinner, a bad one, and went to the comic store again to play but it was closing...there was a girl there who, well it's a long story and a bit of a private one but i came away a bit sad...no draft and bad situation with girl. As always, all of the little things in my life are great but the important ones are messed up. Anyways, bad food and bad mood made me all sick and not only did I have a raging headache, I wound up barfing my guts out...so no packing that night...sucks. And I woke up with that headache. And somehow I broke this glass panel chandelier thingie I have when I was taking my shirt off in the dark, my hands hit it and it fell to the ground. I just got done mopping up glass shards and cut myself, naturally, but not badly. The annoying thing is I think there's still plenty of little glass shards all over.
I'm all good now though. But behind...
I will try to get everything packed by this Friday so I can ship by that date. The good news is of the about 10 to 12 GGS'ers, I'm only holding stuff for like four of ya...the rest of you I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting in person and thus hand delivered yer goodies.
Random Fun Stuff
I wanted to write a whole monster blog on present Top 40 and dance music that I'm hooked on right now but that will have to wait. I'm pretty sure it would be a self-indulgent blog anyway but it's my blog space!
But at times, I am here to entertain y'all! So here's some fun stuff.
This is a simple wallpaper I made with two shots of Porphyria. It's my current wallpaper...I often have to make my own because I was able to get my hands on a relatively cheap monitor that has a fantastic 1920 x 1200 resolution! That vertical of 1200 pixels is just so sexy (and so is 2x of Miss Porph!). But you don't find much wallpaper made to fit that because nearly all widescreen affordable monitors are 1080 vert. Speaking of which, I got to chat with her on SG chat the other day, Friday I think, when I was just hanging out there...like a dumbass I didn't get any screenshots of it. She was not only every bit as cute as she is in her pics (really, it isn't fair...really!) but she made a lot of funny faces that made me laugh. In return, I showed her a Pokemon show on my cam, hehe, at least part one of the show! Stupid SG chat then crashed on me.
Well, along with meeting my two Pennsylvania girls (how many guys you know can spell that state name first try that live no where near PA??), which gave me 2x big HAPPY, I also met this really cute girl who should have been a SG. We had exchanged emails after she had witnessed my UBER Magic skillz in both drafting/playing AND teaching so we exchanged email addresses, yay. Here's a pic above...anyways, after the show I tried to link up with her but unsuccessfully by emailing her...and then I tried one more time emailing her again...and then she responded... actually her response was that she wrote me and sent a long reply the first time and some how it got lost, that she was really happy to talk to me and all that... *sigh* She's far away, has a bf for the moment (who I heard routinely beats her up in Magic with power cards since she has none...at the show I gave her like a foot high stack of cards I had on me). But she was really cute, vulnerable but yet extremely well spoken, had a high passion for Magic and just had amazing poise. Well, that pic above sorts of says it all. Anyways, we are now Facebook friends and emailing each other. She would like to start a girlschool for Magic. *sigh again*
Well, it just goes to show, there are some amazing girls out there. I know quite a few of you on SG! But ALMOST all of you are taken! Maybe if I keep searching...
But man, I really am amped for the next con season next year! Heck I even found a group for this nonsense here on SG!
Cosplay and Conventions group!
LA and True Lies Party
If you get to know me long enough, not only will you think that I'm totally obsessed with whatever I'm in to including music, critically acclaimed movies, Magic, manga, comics, science, politics, Chinese and Japanese history, Western history, porn, certain RPGs books, hockey, trading cards (I'm sure I'm still missing a half dozen things)...but I'm also somewhat of a...supremacist? when it comes to where I live...I always think that LA and CA is the bestest and y'all should move here, ya know?? So here's something that happened to me, an adventure I had, back in high school.
I have a group of friends who was at one time really, REALLY into popular movies. One of them got a hold of a private pass to the Hollywood premiere afterparty for the Schwarzenegger movie True Lies. And then he made about a half dozen fake passes using the original, lol. Anyways, he didn't make like 50 of them because the fewer made, the less likely they will be "detected" as a lot of our friends weren't really good at handling themselves, keeping cool if you will. I got to go! And it was fully catered so I had a super-delish dinner to boot although I had to dress really formal. Luckily at that time of my high school, I dressed formally all of the time (for shy geek/nerd, I was really in to a lot of cool extracurricular shit in my senior year, which put me in a sharp suit several times a week). At the party, the few of us deemed ok enough to go all met up.
Here are the passes made up...side by side you couldn't tell and I saw the huge pile of the real ones where we were supposed to toss on the table as we walked in.

So, long story short, we not only got to meet the cast and director, but nearly all of their friends showed up including other movie stars the cast previously worked with! Here's a list we got to meet all in one night!
Cast:
James Cameron
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Tia Carrere
Bill Paxton
Tom Arnold
Eliza Dushku (who wasn't famous at the time and I didn't recognize)
Friends and "Co-Workers" from other films:
David Spade (he was tiny!)
Danny Devito and wife Rhea Pearlman (from TV show Cheers)
Sharon Stone
Michael Biehn (from Aliens, Abyss)
...and I'm sure there were at least another dozen whom I either didn't see and my friends did, or I just forgot. Like it wouldn't surprise me if my pals who were there either from other Cameron movies or other Arnold movies...
Speaking of Cameron...for my fellow Manga USA groupies
IMDB - Battle Angel

Hey do you have any of those articles you mentioned on the drafting of MTG? I'm trying to get back into the game and would love any resource you could help with. Thank you!
