Nevermind that previous...rambling about some sort of gossamer dream-state I was in earlier. Nevermind at all.
Anyways, I haven't been on SG much and there's not that much that ties me to here still. But there are a few things that do keep me, in a good way, and so I'm still here...
First is that I got one of my old groups back. I used to be a group owner of like six different groups, back when there was probably 1/4th as many as there are now. I even created a few groups. And I got one of the ones I created back. (One other still exists and two others were deleted...) It's the Manga USA group and so I'll be actively trying to post stuff there. Should be fun. Having six+ groups plus a major journal entry every week felt like work after a while and I know all of my oldest friends on my Friends List know what I mean as most of them don't do many journals nowadays...they're too busying living. But one group should be fine...
Second is that over the last few months I've been making detailed critiques on new sets in Member Review. I pick a set that strikes me and seems under-appreciated, and then do a write-up, going over the good and the bad. Luckily so far just about all of the lovely ladies have been very kind and receptive to the comments.
Here is the past history of them...in future journals, I think I'll keep this list so other people interested in this sort of thing can find them all at once...
Newest first:
Porphyria - Office Pet
Xiu - Machine (by Pulse)
PeggySue - Fetish
Paprika - Born Sleepy
The reason why I'm able to do this, other than my apparent coherence with words, is that I am on and off again an assistant to a very elite photographer who's a close friend of mine. Because he is a friend, he was willing to teach me what he knew for free and yet hire me for pay for various shoots. I've mentioned him in previous journals and he's one of those guys who has shot for every major magazine in the past and his resume is incredible. Anyways, along with being his go-fer and lackey, he also taught me how to edit along with assist him in shoots in managing the light, color and physical props (including the model) in the various shoots he's done. I've been lucky enough to not only do low-end shoots for those barely 18 mags but also the high-end Penthouse centerfold shoots.
I learned a lot but am still fairly...I don't know, still not totally an "industry-type?" I find that this mode of knowledge is the best when trying to explain things to anyone who is just learning...by the person who just learned.
So in the near future I'll be doing a lot more of these commentaries because they're kinda fun and I might also write up a "how to" tip sheet for Hopefuls and newer SGs on photography, especially the ones who have a more DIY modus-operandi when shooting sets.
