Just watched "Once were warriors" again after many, many years. Still a jarring vignette of New Zealand life back in the early 90's. So many outstanding performances, and such a bleak environment. Gotta wonder how true it still is in the poor areas?
Work is ticking along. I'm starting to feel really comfortable in the role, although I've still not really dove in socially. Stayed behind for the "Friday night drinks" which we have in work. It was good as I got chatting with a few of the guys and just shot the shit. Possibly the first social thing I've done there, so hopefully I can be proactive enough to make it the first of many.
Still, I'm reminded almost daily that I'm doing this for the experience and money, and not for the original reason for coming here. I started off so keen but the longer I stay the more I feel out of place here. But thankfully I'm a patient sort. I'll see it through, and no doubt find future jobs easier as a result. All the same, a potential 5 month stint of all work and little to no appealing play doesn't ring my bell. Onward and downward!
