Street cameras and beating a ticket are great things in D.C.
About 6 months ago we went to a volleyball game down at George Washington University. We parked on the street like we always do except during certain hours you can't park in certain areas due to rush hour. Well we found a spot right behind the sign that had an arrow pointing in front of us saying that you couldn't park there. I checked to meters and fed it just for the sake of making sure I covered my ass. After the match we found a $100 ticket on our car for illegal parking. We knew that we had read the signs so I went down the block the opposite way and sure enough there was a sign at the very beginning of the street the made it illegal.
We gathered up our information and planned on replying not guilty with an explanation. We received a penalty for not reading the fine print saying that you had 30 days to respond and 60 days to pay it. It doubled if you didn't respond.
Really annoyed at this point with all of the double legal talk that they use in the city. We went online to gather information and found this wonderful street camera that zoomed in on the exact spot we had and the sign was legible as well. It clearly indicated that we were correct in our findings. We sent it all in. You don't have to be present for traffic tickets like this one either. Two days ago we got our findings in the mail. They dropped the charges saying that they had no right to leave a ticket and we were not in violation!
It's a fantastic day when you can beat D.C. at their own signs. Time to check and see if they fixed the sign!
As always...Thanks to all the SG and hopefuls that take the time to put their (I hate when I do this early in the morning and use the wrong "there, their or they're".) sets together and share them with us! You are all awesome people!
