Last Friday a friend asked me if I wanted to go the AT&T National golf tournament in Bethesda. We play golf together sometimes, she's a great friend and yet another cancer survivor. I took her up on it. I met her at 6:30am to so that we could get a good spot. Got into the Congressional Country Club around 7:30am...it sounds so snooty! Trust me it is! We camped out on the green of the 2nd hole and watched the first 18 pairs play then we headed off for lunch. Lunch sucked but there really wasn't a choice since we weren't allowed to bring good stuff in.
Here's your lunch Visa commercial...
Bottle of water $2.50
10 inch bun with 6 inch hotdog $5.00
Watching overpaid golfers screw up...priceless!!!
We headed over to the 10th hole to see if anybody would hit in the water. There were a couple of them but nothing was more priceless than VJ Singh, aka...women shouldn't be in sports. My friend was thrilled to see him screw up. It was hot as hell out there this weekend so we finished watching several group including the infamous Tiger Woods...not impressed with his par and went to find water before moving on to another hole. This is just unbelievable but they ran out of water to sell. The golfers had coolers full of it but none for the paying public. Now we were pissed off and hot. Did I mention that my friend is a total jock babe? She so humble about it too and shrugs it off. Back to the 18th. We watched a few more pairs then we knew Tiger Woods was getting close so we high tailed it out of there to beat the crowds.
On the way out we saw Maryland Terrapins basketball coach Gary Williams on the deck at the clubhouse. I was more impressed to see him up close than any of the other golfers. As we approached the tee box to the 3rd hole we saw 2 big coolers sitting there. The dare was on to go check them out. 2 guys ahead of us went into one of them and snagged some drinks. I followed shortly there after and grabbed some waters. Michelle kept telling me to put $5 in there to pay for them. I told her that it was justice for them selling out and keeping it for the golfers. Oh, did I mention that the 2nd bottle we had was warm.
All and all it was a great day. I did forget to put some sunblock on my chest so I have this groovy sunburn spot in the shape of a "V" on my chest. Michelle is an awesome friend and talks to me more often when she's around me. She is also an encourager of me going to massage school. She also enjoys my massages that I give to her...I'm only working on backs, shoulders, neck and feet for now. People like her make me realize how nice it will be to giving massages as a practice!
Some day!!!
