I shot my first set in mid February in Pensacola with Sex
A week later I went "on tour" to Tampa and Orlando for shoots with some truly fabulous people. Unfortunately, I hadn't realized how much I didn't know. My sets were rather "routine" and I did the same types of shots over and over and over.
First, I started in St. Petersburg with Annasthesia
As soon as we were finished, I drove up to Sheyva's house in Tampa.
The next morning I made my first ever trip to Orlando and shot some fun sets with Yesenia
and Myrtle
As I started editing those sets, I realized that my sets didn't look like the other sets that have gone live. I didn't have the closeups, the variety of angles, or the artistic element that the really good photogs use.
It was time to study up on what the staff photogs do and try to learn from their example. For my next set, I was back down in Tampa and shot a set in Sheyva's kitchen that was a big improvement. It didn't go live, but I think it was a good step forward from my first attempts.
After wrapping up that set, I headed up to Port Richey for a midnight shoot in a baseball dugout with Angeliasuong. She didn't tell me that we'd be shooting outdoors in total darkness, but I managed to pull it off. My camera did a good job of focusing, which was a miracle because I didn't have a lantern and couldn't see her for any of the shots. It was literally that dark! I only saw her when the flashes fired.
In June I made one more trip south for shoots in Ocala and Tampa. My first stop was for a shoot with SpiltMilk. That one was pretty much doomed from the get go. She had us shoot in an abandoned mobile home on a 97 degree day. If it was 97 outside, then it was probably well over 100 inside. It was hot! I wasn't sure of my abilities to photoshop perspiration, so I shot a very conservative set. We'll try it again some day in a better environment and show ya'll how fabulous she is.
The next day I had an adventure with Ashbury when we shot in a parking garage in downtown Tampa. There were security guards looking for us because they knew we were in the garage, but they luckily didn't find us in the stairwell between the 8th and 9th floors.
In July I tried something new that I had no experience at all with......dog photography! It was exhausting, but turned out to be a lot of fun.
After wrapping up those dog shoots, I made one last trip around Florida. This time I had a new lens which was much more suited for shooting sets, and a lot more experience. I went out feeling confident, and we'll find out soon if I actually know what I'm doing.
First, I shot a set in St. Pete with Virginya, which comes up for review tomorrow morning. Don't miss it
Then it was off to Miami, which I had never been to before. That city is HUGE!! But it was pretty easy to get around (thanks to the magic of GPS).
A few hours after I arrived, I shot a set with Vionah, which is currently bogged down in staff review. If they kick it to MR, we'll see it in March or April. So far away
The next night I went off to some town south of Miami and shot a set with Hokustar. It will be coming up for review in 3 weeks.
2010 already looks to be a busy year with shoots coming up with VickiCupcake, Ashbury, Sheyva, Gambyt, Beeg, and Dimanche. I'll keep learning, getting better, and hopefully putting some of ya'll on the front page.
Happy New Year to you!
