someone i know died in afghanistan yesterday.
and i had to hear it on the news no less. his name was pat tillman, and he was an amazing guy. people are often called heroes when they die, but he was a true hero while he was alive as well. after september 11th he decided to leave behind the NFL (and a multimillion-dollar contract) to become an army ranger. he was genuinely concerned with helping others. i knew him because he played every year in a celebrity softball tournament i organized to raise money for the special olympics. so many of the celebrities participated for the simple sake of public relations, but he truly cared and always wanted to do more.
