I hate to say this because I know you said what you did to your brother out of love, but it probably just made him feel more alienated from you. I'm sure he knows right from wrong just as you do, but he's at where he's at and he can't change it for you, he has to want to change it for himself. (And he's also the only person he owes it to to do that-he doesn't owe it to you or anybody but himself to live his life a certain way.) I know it's probably hard not to judge him, but that's really not your job. Loving him is. And I'll bet having someone in his life who loves him unconditionally will really make things better for him, no matter what choices he makes or where he ends up. I'm not saying don't draw your own boundaries as to what you can and can't do for him (ie. you will help him find a job, but not let him live at your house), but just let him know you're always there to love him.
I hope I'm not being to presumptuous here, I've just been on both sides of dilemmas like this and I know what helped me, that's all.
