Just got back from another trip to California... only this one was business related. Believe it or not, I was studying California soils.
In my free time, I got to see the Sequoia trees... they were incredible. There was 5 feet of snow at the top of the mountain, where the trees were. Saw two black bears and a coyote on my way up. Went to the beach one afternoon... it was FREEZING! But the sunset over the water was beautiful. It was also cool to see actual sand dunes, which have been more or less completely obliterated on the east coast. I also got to see the San Andreas Fault... which doesn't look as impressive as you think. Imagine a dry river bed. Only when you look at it, it's cool to think that you're looking at the joining of two continental plates that are sliding past each other at the rate of 1.2 inches per year.
Damn, I'm such a nerd.
