Wow, I'm REALLY not up for school starting again this friggin' WEDNESDAY! I guess that despite finals being done on the 17th, I didn't really get off until the 23rd because I was in lab all week that week, so really my Xmas break is only ten days, with a full week behind me already...
One week of gaming has not, sadly, fully countered the effects of the lil' burnout I was headed for last term...what with the constant lack of money, time, and doing all these things I don't really feel like these days...all I had time for was finishing Catherine on hard mode (THAT was hard, believe me!), finishing the Witcher 1 (FINALLY), and starting The Witcher 2...I'd say I still have about a good 80 hours of that before I'm fully satisfied...and I haven't even started Skyrim!!! That's not even mentioning the tons of great games I bought on Steam as part of their Holiday sale...almost bought one a day...GAAAAHHHHH!!! I want this break to last longer, and wanna keep getting up late and go to the gym and cook great food and play video games 'till my head and my eyes hurt!...Yeah I know, I sound like a brat right now, but I have been long overdue for a break, I mean a REAL one, like a vacation or something like that, or at least two more solid weeks of vedging...
Well I guess I have to brace myself for reality, and at least I can find comfort in the fact that, despite the insanity of the workload looming ahead, these are things that I (mostly) will very much enjoy doing...so I've got my classes, of course, and I have a pretty cool, albeit demanding, schedule this term: Physiology, Intro to Pharmacology II, Human Genetics (CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT!), Medical Biotechnology, and the Honours class of course. Then I got the Teaching Assistant position in 1st year Biology, and I gotta say I've been really missing those crazy kids over the past few weeks, will be nice to see them again. I've got another Lab Assistant position, but that's very part-time. And then of course I have my Honours project, so a fuckload of hours in the lab over the next two months, and I have to start thinking about writing and presenting my thesis...I will have to bid farewell to my bed quite soon, sadly...FML. I am quite worried about my Honours project, because it's a ton of extremely long manipulations in the lab, and not only is my Winter Term schedule not conducive to that like the Fall Term schedule was, but I am also behind because I could not start the project in the summer like most...fucking Molecular Biology: it's taking me so much more time in the lab than the other students who are doing easier types of Biology research. I've also realized that as fascinating as Molecular Biology is conceptually, it is boring as fuck to conduct research in the lab in terms of your day-to-day experiments...I think I will be much more suited to the Cardiovascular Physiology type of research that I will most likely do in the Pharmacology department when in grad school next year, if I do go with my favorite prof that is...or maybe I'll just ''take an arrow in the knee'' and take a break, haha!
Anyway, all this rambling on to say that I got quite comfortable playing loads of video games over this very short break, and I could (and have!) get used to this...I need more balance: more video games, more lifting, and more sex. The prof I wanna work with in grad school, Dr. Howlett, in addition to being real, and being uber funny and personable, not to mention really intelligent and successful, really believes in having a work-life balance, and exemplifies that to perfection. All the students are really successful in her lab, get published quite a lot, but are also very happy in the lab and fulfilled in their personal life....so I guess my problem is that I am dreaming ahead and I am sort of skipping over that last hurdle, the final school term as an undergrad, which is the only thing standing between me and freedom...whoa! Talk about being melodramatic!!! Can you tell somebody's burning out?
Happy New Year to all by the way, and I hope everyone had an amazing break and got lots of rest and love from family and friends, and video games of course! Speaking of which, what's everyone been playing these days?
Cheers!
