Say you were being eaten alive by a tiny parasite. At first you think the parasite is going to realize that eating you is not good and decide to be nice and stop . . . how naive. So you find out how to get away from the little bugger, and you do just that. How stupid was it to think the parasite was going to stop eating you. Well it was even stupider to welcome the parasite back to feast some more. Why on earth would you think that a parasite would suddenly realize it was a parasite and be sorry for it? Like it would decide not to be a life-sucking pest, and a menace to your health just because you think it's the right thing to do.
