Just got home from Le Tigre at Irving Plaza. I've been to about 5 LT shows and I think this one might have been the best. Although I didn't like the new stuff too much, after hearing it live, its taken on a whole new light, its really great and passionate. The band for having signed to a major hasn't changed a bit. First of all Murray Hill, the drag king, hosted the night. He's always really funny but tonight he was actually kind of inspiring. He talked about how LT signed to Universal and how they hadn't changed and how now people everywhere will get a chance to hear them. He also did the best introduction to LT that I've ever heard. He quoted "Footloose", which after the lights went up the theme from started playing. He also made this speech about how on TV they're always saying this is a divided nation but how in this one place he saw so many different people all together having a good time and how important that was. Finally he pointed out that Ad Rock was there and it was his birthday and also Joan Jett(!!!) was there.
The openers "Breaker, Breaker" and "Gravy Train" were both awesome. JD came out during Gravy Train's set for a song and at the end of it one of the guys kissed her. They also had all these dancers come on for their last song and 2 of them started making out, like really making out. Le Tigre themselves had just so much raw energy. The crowd was totally into them, they were having fun, and it was great. They came onstage in Halloween costumes. Kathleen was dressed as Annie (I immediatly started thinking about the thing on the Mike Watt cd, "Dude you gotta give me my Annie cd back"), JD as a caveman, and Joanna as a nun. Before "seconds" Kathleen said she didn't even want to talk about the election and that whenever she sees him on tv she gets sick and that in a couple of days the song will be outdated. She then launched into that with all that Bikini Kill rage I'd always wanted to really see. I took a bunch of pictures, I'll post them some other time. Just an amazing show. Oh and I got a new LT shirt too. The new cd I realized is all meant to be heard live. The tracks aren't done justice on cd. Anyway awesome show, sold out, as is tomorrow I believe, but I don't think they're gonna be able to beat tonight's show.
