Thanks for the comment/advice...I dunno how much coverage nationally this is getting, but there is no way for me to evacuate town, what is normally a 4 hour drive to Austin has become a 22 hour drive, same w/ all the other cities...gridlock is bad, no cars are moving, I have a million stories about ppl who are just parked on the frwy. and haven't moved in hours...not to mention the overheating and running outta gas due to sitting in a car for so long....plus there is no gas in this part of TX......
......So anyways, I'm just shacking up w/ my doggie....got plenty of food/water/candles/batteries all that good stuff...plus, the news looks like it won't be hitting us as hard as initially it looked....the storm has moved more north/east, good for us, bad for LA again ....but, I expect a *really* bad thunderstorm, no electricity for up to 3 days, worse case, and possibly a broken window and maybe some minor water damage....But other than that the only thing I'm super concerned w/ is being alone and hearing the storm rage outside....My family is now a 3 hour drive from me,(it is usually 15 minutes)....I could always go to them, but I think I need to stay w/ my place in case anything happens so I can start damage control ASAP...plus, hopefully seeing signs of life in an apt., it may ward off looters...>crosses fingers<.......
......Anyways, I took some pic's of me preparing my place for this little storm of ours, well, I'm not in any of them, as this day, (which is a continuation of yesterday as I've still not slept), has been hellacious...so I look like non-refundable dookie......
........SO, I have this "friend" of mine, who I called this morning to ask if he thought that sometime today, he would be able to bring over a ladder, in order to help me tape up my window, (I live in a loft, w/ floor to near ceiling windows, no possible way to reach them w/ out a ladder)...anyways, he said yes....I then asked him, "do you promise you will do this? Cause if you may not be able to make it, let me know now so I can start making other arrangements to find a ladder/ somebody to help" He promised, "Yes, I will help you fix up your place so you can survive this storm alone".....Cool, settled, right? HAHAHAHAHAHA.....No, fastforward 6 hours later, I'm calling and calling his cell phone, no answer....so I call his home line....his Pops answers and tells me he's sleeping.....He went ahead and woke him up, (though I didn't ask him to), and when he got on the phone he was like, "what, I was tired", um, hello?!? I'm the one who's been up all night preparing for this, I'm the one who's freaking out cause I have my own apt. at risk w/ all my worldly possesions, you however live w/ your mommy and daddy and have no idea what a *bill* is....and you're tired?!?!?!? He then proceeds to tell me, (cause by this time we knew that the storm had moved, and Houston was in significantly less danger that earlier), that I don't need to do it anyway, that its pointless....*WHOA*, What? You mean, giving me piece of mind, in a Category 5 hurricane, that may or may not completely FUCK the city of Houston up, you decided w/ out calling to ask me if I still wanted to do it, that I didn't need to? Even if it would be silly, it would give me piece of mind, to know I had at least done all that I could! Look, you promised, and not only did you fuck me outta 6 hours to find someone else, but now all the stores are closed, so even if I could find somebody else to help me, I wouldn't be able to get a ladder now.....Thanks. Thanks for helping a girl, a scared girl who is getting ready to hunker down alone in a Category 5 hurricane, thanks for helping me totally freak out and lose my cool....What a pal. ......
......So, not only did I not give up, SG, but I improvised....oh yes, this bitch, pulled all her furniture away from the window, only to pull her oak dinner table in from the kitchen, and then to top it off w/ my coffee table, a makeshift ladder, in order to tape and tarp off my window....and here are said pics, trust me, they are not exciting, but then neither was my day, so it is reflected quite eloquently....
here's the $5.99 hammer I bought cause all the stores were "out", and here is the $26.97 hammer I had to buy because it worked...can you tell which is which?
here is my table castle/makeshift ladder
1/2 way done with the window, its all taped up but you can't see cause the tape is clear...oh, and the window is WAY bigger, the pic makes it look small...
all is said and done...let's hope this works and at least keeps wind/glass/rain/flying salamies outta my place...BTW, those are shower curtains if you were wondering....I nailed them over the window....She's crafty!
Told ya the pics weren't very interesting....
.....K ya'll, this will probably be my last entry for a few days, as I'm gonna have to unplug my comp once the storm hits and put it somewhere relatively *safe*....Hope it was long enough to tide ya'll over, and you don't start going through Diva-withdrawal..... Wish me luck, and keep myself, my family and everyone in Houston/Galveston and all other fleeing cities in your prayers/thoughts....There are quite a few SG members who are being affected by this, and we all hope to make it through safely, hopefully having a happier outcome than New Orleans.....Thanks a lot, and see ya'll soon!
